A little Pentland Podiatry update 👣

Starting a new business always brings challenges and plenty of learning — but it’s been really encouraging to see Pentland Podiatry continue to grow.

More new patients are getting in touch for help with everything from routine foot care to more complex foot and lower-limb problems, and seeing people leave more comfortable, more confident and with a clear plan makes all the hard work worthwhile.

A big thank you to everyone who has booked, recommended Pentland Podiatry or shared a post — it really does make a difference to a small local business.

Excited to see what the next few months bring.

3 signs your running pain is worth getting checked 🏃

1️⃣ It keeps coming back
It settles after a few days off, but returns once you start increasing your running again.

2️⃣ It’s changing how you run
If you’re limping, shortening your stride or avoiding loading one side, it’s worth finding out why.

3️⃣ It’s getting progressively worse
Pain that increases with each run rather than gradually settling shouldn’t simply be pushed through.

Not every running ni**le means you need to stop running — but understanding what is causing it can make managing it much easier.

A little about my journey from QMU to launching Pentland Podiatry.

From graduating with distinction to launching his own podiatry practice in Penicuik, QMU graduate Alan Findlay is already making his mark in the profession.

Alan graduated with a Master of Podiatry with Distinction before establishing Pentland Podiatry, Penicuik., which provides evidence-based, patient-centred care. Alongside his academic success, he also received the OSGO Award for Best Research Project.

Three running-related foot problems people often ignore:

1. Heel pain that keeps returning
Pain may settle between runs but continue to return as training increases.
2. Black or damaged toenails
Repeated pressure inside running shoes can cause bruising, thickening and discomfort.
3. Pain under the ball of the foot
Forefoot pain can worsen with distance and may be influenced by loading, pressure or footwear.

Running pain is not always something that should simply be pushed through. A proper assessment can help identify contributing factors and provide a clearer plan.

Three things I saw in clinic this week… 👣

Every week is different, but this week I helped people with:

• Persistent heel pain that had been ignored for months.
• Thickened toenails that people thought were “just old age.”
• Painful corns making walking uncomfortable.

One thing they all had in common? They’d often been putting off getting help.

Foot pain isn’t something you simply have to live with, and many common foot problems can be managed much more effectively when they’re assessed early.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

👣 Do your first few steps in the morning make you wince?

One of the most common causes of heel pain is plantar fasciitis.

People often describe:
• Sharp pain under the heel first thing in the morning.
• Pain after sitting for a while.
• Symptoms that ease once they’ve been walking for a few minutes.

The good news is that many cases respond well to the right combination of advice, exercises and footwear guidance.

It’s also important to remember that not all heel pain is plantar fasciitis. Other conditions can cause very similar symptoms, which is why a proper assessment is worthwhile if the pain isn’t settling.

💬 Have you ever experienced heel pain? How did it affect your day-to-day life?

👣 Meet the home of Pentland Podiatry

A few months ago Pentland Podiatry was just an idea.

Since then it’s grown from providing home visits to welcoming patients into a dedicated clinic here in Penicuik.

Building a business from the ground up has been a huge learning experience, but one thing has never changed—my aim is to provide professional, friendly and personalised foot care in a relaxed environment where patients never feel rushed.

Whether you’re visiting with foot pain, thickened nails, corns, hard skin or simply want advice on keeping your feet healthy, you’ll always receive the same care and attention I’d want for my own family.

And yes… you’ll occasionally spot my four-legged companion outside the clinic too. 🐶

Thank you to everyone who has booked an appointment, left a review, recommended Pentland Podiatry to friends or simply followed along on this journey.

Your support genuinely means a great deal.

I’m looking forward to continuing to help keep the people of Penicuik and the surrounding area moving comfortably, one step at a time.

💬 If you haven’t visited before, what would you like to know about the clinic or the services I offer? Feel free to ask below or send me a message.
