πŸŽ‰ Lesley appreciation post πŸŽ‰

Lesley joined us a while back but became a full time fully fledged Trusted Companion just a couple of weeks ago.
She has a knack for putting people at ease, especially when they feel a bit reluctant to accept extra support in their homes.

It's a skill that few master so easily, but alongside the rest of the team we seem to be welcomed in with open arms. It won't always be easy - but the team we have are committed to making care and companionship feel familiar, unrushed and respectfully good fun πŸ₯°

We had Calum Kerr our local MSP in for a chat, what a genuine and all round decent person to have represent Penicuik.
We talked for an hour about the pitfalls in this industry and how we are trying to bring care back into a positive light.
We all agreed that care has become very corporate, and I think/hope we demonstrated how we are looking to influence a culture shift.
Everything I have experienced as a care worker/manager over the years, I am trying to offset. Trying get care back to being compassionate, trusted, relationship focused and actually a service that people invite in to their homes with a confident smile.

The takeaway from today was that he now knows who we are and what we are about, and I am so grateful for his time. He did say there are points they will raise in parliament. Even small changes could have a huge impact on so many peoples experience of care. No 15 minute visits being the norm at the forefront 🩡
Fair pay, upskilling workers and recognising carers for the work they do πŸ’ͺ🏻 dead proud of our team for making it all possible, and grateful for their trust!!!

It's good to see people talking about our sector once again, but like so many conversations, they seems to be overcomplicating what good care actually looks like.
It really isn't that complicated.
At The Trusted Companion Midlothian 🩡

We say no 15-minute visits.
We offer flexibility in the care we offer, too often we have met people who have been turned away as there care packages are not substantial enough 🀯
We really do value our carers and companions, I hope I never lose sight of how important it is to keep these absolute diamonds invested in care delivery.
We have built the service around people's needs, not financial gain.

We've been putting these principles into practice since the day I started this venture LESS than a year ago 😬

Put simply this is how we believe care should be delivered.
It all relies on holistic, relationship-based support.
It means looking after not just the person receiving care, but their family too. When unpaid carers are supported and well, everyone has more time for the things that keep families together.

Please like and share our page, I hope to at least inspire other care companies to reset, re evaluate their core values, realise what a privilege it is being invited into people's home and lives, and get people trusting care services again πŸ©΅πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ₯°

I'm proud to say I actually think this is something we do quite well πŸ€—
Looking after family members and unpaid carers is equally important to us.

Our 'branding' demonstrates this quite well I feel. We are here to support from the bottom up. No agenda, prioritising you and whoever is supporting you. That is our job, and definitely our purpose 🩡

I hope this message finds who needs it most πŸ€— xx

New month and the nights will soon be drawing in. It can be isolating for most of us, however being an older person in the winter can be really tough, frightening and lonely.

At The Trusted Companion Midlothian we offer homecare and companionship at a pace to suit your needs. Social support or just a cuppa and a blether.

From one visit a week to 7 days we can help you live well at home 🩡

No boring Wednesdays in our office........πŸ˜‚

22/07/2026

We are on the lookout for a full time flexible worker who is happy to step in to any role, from personal care to companionship/home help.

It will be varied, it's definitely not boring....but we need good all rounders to add to our already strong team!

It's a steady process with us growing, so if you have reached out in the past and are still wondering if we would be a good fit, please let me know 🩡

Β£15 per hour, flexible days and hours to be discussed on initial chat.

What we can't accommodate right now is requests for Monday to Friday 'office type' hours as this doesn't work for the needs of those we support.

No 15 minute visits will be expected 🩡

Whilst I absolutely admire the message people are trying to get across in their lovely 'care is extremely positive and we should all be carers' posts.....it's just not a true reflection of what being a carer means.
It's not all awards and glamour, or peace love and gentleness.

It's an industry that pushes you to the edge at times with compliance, toxic management, behaviors that challenge (from all angles), it can be sweaty πŸ₯΅ , early, longer than planned, it can hurt emotionally, it can really open your eyes to the loneliness people endure whilst ageing.

HOWEVER!! Having dedicated my life to this industry I'm now on a mini mission to ensure that people we support and the carers joining me feel safe, valued and supported when all of the above hits you.....(which is inevitable in my experience) I honestly wouldn't change one decision made to this point.

The rewards and relationships you can build if given the time to do so, taking care back to a place of trust, facing challenges together, open conversations and feedback, improving and evaluating what is actually working....not only helps people to 'get by' but helps them thrive.

This is not a recruitment post, nor is it a post proclaiming to be the best care company who never gets things wrong.....its just a reality check and recognition of the wonderful work carers do πŸ‘πŸ» and a thanks to my wee team πŸ˜˜β€οΈπŸ™ŒπŸ»

An absolutely magnificent day 🌞

John kindly agreed to a photo and was happy for me to share with you all that he is 92 years young.
We headed off for a walk, opting for the Bush estate (I have never been before today) John had us off the beaten track, through the woods, dodging tree roots and ducking branches. An hour and a quarter we spent circling the area.....sounds risky you say? Well this is what we mean by positive risk taking πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Age shouldn't hold you back from doing what you love, in John's case it's exploring with the intention of getting lost!! What an inspirational person he is and what a lovely area to explore 🌳
