🤍 While Ever We Don’t Understand Suffering… 🤍
While ever we don’t understand suffering, therapists, healers and the self-help world will continue to make heaps of money 💰 from our belief that every uncomfortable feeling needs fixing. And I say that as someone who has worked within this world for nearly three decades. 🌿✨
Therapy has its place. Healing work has its place. Sometimes we absolutely need help and support. 🤍 But I’m beginning to question this idea that the ultimate goal is to become so healed that life somehow stops hurting. Maybe we were never promised that. 🙏 💔 Grief hurts. 🤍 Relationships hurt. 👩👧👧 Parenting can hurt. 🌊 Change, rejection, uncertainty and losing people we love hurt.
These things aren’t necessarily evidence that we’re unhealed or doing life incorrectly. ☦️ My faith has increasingly made me look at suffering differently. Orthodox Christianity doesn’t teach us that a meaningful life will be free from pain. Some of its deepest wisdom is about how we live through suffering without allowing it to destroy who we are. So perhaps the question isn’t always “What do I need to heal?” “What’s wrong with me?” “Why am I like this?” 🥺
Sometimes it might simply be: “How do I walk through this well?” 🕊️
There’s quite a difference. 🤍✨
So much love, Laila xo 🌹☦️
