This Sunday evening, you're invited to step away from the doing for a little while, and simply be.

Come and rest as you're gently held by soothing sounds and vibrations, allowing your body to soften, your nervous system to unwind, and your mind to become a little quieter.

7 years ago today, after a very long labour, my beautiful, wild and sweetly sensitive daughter came into this world 🤍

I realise I don't often talk about my first birth story - the birth that made me a Mumma. Perhaps because, even now, it still feels wrapped up in trauma.

My dreams of a magical home birth were shattered, replaced by bright hospital lights, failed spinals, interventions and moments I've somehow blocked from memory. But before all of that, there was so much magic.

Nearly 48 hours earlier we were up at the allotment, my partner, mum and I, hands in the earth, feet on the ground. Digging, harvesting a healthy crop of rainbow chard, eating raspberries straight from the bush in the late afternoon sunshine. Laughing, excited, blissfully at ease with the process.

Contractions got stronger and more frequent so we waddled downhill towards home, pausing every few moments to breathe through surge after surge.

At home, fairy lights glowed as I paced the hallway, leaning into doorframes as my body did the work it instinctively knew how. The birth pool brought such relief, and my first midwife arrived like some otherworldly goddess; an angel - quiet, respectful, hands off, simply holding the space with the occasional knowing wink that said, you've got this.

Then things became blurry.

Shift changes. Different faces. Labour slowing. The vision I'd held of birthing my baby en caul broken, quite literally, when my waters were manually broken without full consent.

The car journey to hospital. Vomiting outside the entrance. More changes in caregivers. Male consultants. Attempt after unsuccessful attempt to site a spinal. An episiotomy. Forceps.

And then...

She was placed on my chest.

The lights were so bright that the three of us hid beneath a towel. Time stood still.

I looked into her impossibly dark eyes as they met mine with such depth, peace and calm. In that moment, none of the rest mattered. I had met my daughter for the very first time.

It's a moment I'll treasure for the rest of my life.

Birth can be beautiful. Birth can be traumatic. Sometimes it can be both at once.

Happy 7th birthday to my darling girl. Thank you for making me a mother.

Here's me at midnight, in the hours leading up to the birth of my daughter 7 years ago.

As I look back on that time, I remember so much more than the anticipation of meeting her. I remember pregnancy itself - the incredible, sometimes challenging, experience of growing and carrying a tiny human. I remember the changes in my body, the aches and the wonder, the moments of feeling completely exhausted and completely amazed all at once.

Something that stands out is how good it felt to be held, supported and nurtured during those nine months. To have space where my body could soften, where I could rest, where someone was caring for me while I cared for the little life growing inside me.

Those experiences shaped the way I work with pregnant clients today. I know how much can be happening physically, emotionally, and mentally during pregnancy, and I know how powerful it can be to receive touch that is safe, intentional, and deeply supportive.

Pregnancy asks so much of a body. Every mother deserves moments of comfort, care, and connection along the way.

Seven years later, I'm still grateful for those moments of being nurtured - and I always feel honoured to offer that same care to others on their own journey into motherhood. 🤍

How is Midsummer almost here already?! ☀️🌿

Honestly, this year has felt like such a strange one...

Winter seemed to stretch on FOREVER, while spring slipped by almost unnoticed, save for a few teasing glimpses of HOT sunshine that made us think summer had arrived…only to disappear again. As I write this, I'm sitting listening to the rain hammering down outside, wrapped in layers, with the air feeling more like April than June.

As we edge towards Midsummer – traditionally a time of abundance, vitality, celebration, and standing in the fullness of the light – I find myself wondering where that feeling has gone. My body still feels like it's catching up, wanting to linger in winter's slower rhythm while the calendar races ahead.

Life, of course, has its own plans. Birthday season has officially begun in our house (three Geminis within 10 days!), bringing with it joy, cake, celebrations, and beautifully busy days. If it weren't for that, I think I might still be happily hibernating.

Maybe that's the invitation this Midsummer: not to force ourselves to match the season, but to notice where we truly are. To honour our own rhythms alongside nature's ever-changing dance. To seek moments of warmth, stillness, and connection, even if the sun is hiding behind the clouds.

Wherever you find yourself as we approach the longest day, I hope you find a little space to pause, breathe in the scent of summer, and soak up whatever light is available. 🌿✨
