Have you started noticing those pesky little lines appearing around your mouth?
They’re often called smoker lines, but you don’t have to smoke to get them!
They’re actually called ‘perioral lines’ or ‘perioral rhytids’.
They are caused by repetitive puckering movements coupled with loss of collagen & elastin, sun damage and reduced skin quality.
These can be treated several ways-very dependant upon the cause and presentation at consultation.
Wrinkle relaxing injections can be used to relax the muscle in this area, leading to less muscle movement-this alone will not address the root cause of the lines and these will come back as the injections wear off. However, can be a very effective quick fix!
Microneedling can be very effective to boost collagen and make the skin thicker and more robust-less prone to ‘folding’.
Skin boosters and polynucleotides are a good option if there is any inflammation, significant sun damage or a lack of hydration deep in the dermis.
Filler can also be used to fill the lines, but this must be done very conservatively so as not to cause too much volume.
