We were delighted to welcome Professor Lucy Chappell, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department of Health and Social Care and CEO of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), to Peterborough City Hospital last Friday to learn more about Research, Innovation and Impact & Neighbourhood Health Partnerships within our local area and the collaborative work taking place between the Trust and our community partners.

During the visit, Professor Chappell listened to presentations showcasing how we are working together to improve health and wellbeing for local people which provided a valuable opportunity to share insights, discuss collaborative working, and highlight the impact of partnership-driven care.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and demonstrated the difference partnership can make.

💜 Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the UK - affecting one in four men in their lifetime (or one in four for men from an Afro-Caribbean heritage). Often referred to as a 'silent killer', it is also a cancer that can be cured if picked up early enough. The Trust is supporting a community health event in St Neots next month spearheaded by campaigner Dave Young and supported by Purple Horizons where the aim is to set a world record for the most men tested and examined for prostate cancer at one location in one day. With warm temperatures still being forecast over this next week, it's essential to stay safe in the sun 🌡️

High temperatures are likely to have significant impacts on the health of vulnerable people. Taking precautions can help reduce the impact of hot weather on you and others.

To stay safe in the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🏠 Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day where possible.
🧴 Wear sunscreen, a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing.
🤝 Check regularly on elderly people, young children and pets.
🏃‍♂️ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest periods.
🪭 Use fans, take cool showers or use damp cloths to help keep cool

If you are visiting our hospitals, please take extra care in the heat and bring bottled water with you. Allow plenty of time so you don’t need to rush.

If you or someone else feels unwell due to the heat, visit 111.nhs.uk if it’s not an emergency.

MenB can cause serious illnesses like meningitis and septicaemia.
You may be eligible if you are:
✅ 17 to 18 years old and born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
✅ Under 25 and starting university or moving into residential further education for the first time
Eligible 17 to 18-year-olds born between these dates can book online if they’re registered with a GP in England. Eligible under-25s can get vaccinated at a participating pharmacy – no GP registration is needed.
You'll need 2 doses, given at least 4 weeks apart, for the best protection.

A visit to hospital for many patients will involve blood tests – which for some, can be an extremely anxious time.

But with a wealth of experience which has seen almost 155,000 blood samples taken in the past year, patients are in very safe and supportive hands during an 🩸appointment with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust’s phlebotomy team.

And in recognition of their incredible work - they were recently recognised as the Team of the Year at our Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Yesterday we welcomed Councillor Shabina Qayyum to Peterborough City Hospital to see first-hand the work to support patient flow, reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and strengthen the provision of care closer to home.

Councillor Qayyum saw first-hand how different teams work together to provide high-quality care for our communities and improved patient experience while helping hospital services run more effectively.

The visit highlighted the importance of partnership working in meeting increasing demand for services while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the local health and care system.

She even met our own superstar volunteer Ron Nash - recently crowned our volunteer of the year in the Trust's Outstanding Achievement Awards!
