Fenland Family History Research A professional family history research service using 17th to 20th century English sources

I offer a tailored family history research and problem solving service. No project is too small or too large, be it an in-depth research project covering several generations of a particular surname, assistance in identifying a missing ancestor or a look-up of a baptism, marriage or burial. I am also able to offer advice if you have hit a brick-wall in your own research. A full report of research w

ork will be provided with the option of printed or handwritten family trees. I have experience in reading old handwriting and transcribing old documents. I am also willing to look at and assess DNA results and dilemmas

I have been researching my own family history for over 20 years and have strong ancestral roots in Cambridgeshire, (old) Huntingdonshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk. As I live on the Cambs/Lincs county border, I can access both the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire Archives as required. In addition to the experience gained in researching my own family tree, I have also undertaken several years of part-time study whilst raising a family. In 2016/7 I took the Family Skills & Strategies (Advanced) Distance Learning course with Pharos Teaching & Tutoring Ltd and the Society of Genealogists having previous completed the Intermediate course. I am a member of the Cambridgeshire Family History Society and have transcribed documents for the society in the past. I am also a moderator and admin for a number of Facebook Genealogy groups. Please contact me to discuss your requirements and for a free no obligation quote.

Some families want a simple answer whilst others want the whole story.

The 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞 is for people who want to understand the bigger picture.

Rather than researching just one branch, I explore multiple family lines, building a richer picture of where your family came from and how different generations connect.

You don't have to spend months trying to work it all out yourself.

I'll carry out the research, explain what we've discovered and bring those stories together in a way that's easy to understand and enjoyable to share with your family.
Imagine being able to hand future generations something that answers questions they've never even thought to ask yet.

Not just names on a page, but a story they can read, treasure and pass on.

If you've been thinking about preserving your family's history before more stories disappear, I'd love to help.

Just send me a message and we can chat about whether the Platinum Package is the right fit for your family.

Family history isn't just about names on a chart. It's about understanding the people who made your family what it is today.

People often tell me they'd love to trace their family tree and my first question is always the same, "What do you hope to discover?"

Because once we start digging, it rarely stays as a list of names.

We uncover lives. We find occupations, newspaper stories, military records, family tragedies and wonderful surprises.

That's when everything changes. Your ancestors stop being names on a page and become real people with hopes, struggles and achievements.

That's what makes family history so special. It's never really about the records. It's about the people behind them.

There was a moment recently that stayed with me long after I'd closed my laptop.

I was looking through a collection of old records, trying to piece together the life of someone who had spent nearly eighty years on this earth. Census records. Parish registers. Newspaper snippets. Tiny fragments that, on their own, didn't seem particularly remarkable.

Then it hit me.

This person had been reduced to a handful of dates and occupations because nobody had ever written their story down.

If you're juggling work, ageing parents, your own family and everything else life throws at you, it's completely understandable that researching your family history keeps slipping to the bottom of the list.

It's one of those things we all mean to get round to. One day.

The trouble is, life rarely becomes less busy. Meanwhile, memories quietly fade. Parents remember less than they used to.

Boxes of photographs stay unopened in the loft. Names on the back of old pictures become impossible to recognise.

Before long, the person who knew the answers isn't there to ask anymore.

One of the things I love most about family history research isn't uncovering someone famous or finding a coat of arms. It's discovering the ordinary lives. The agricultural labourer who walked miles to work every day. The young mother raising children during difficult times. The grandfather whose military record reveals far more than he ever spoke about.

These are the stories that shaped every generation that followed. They're the reason we're here.

Most people simply don't know where to begin. There are so many websites, records and conflicting hints that it quickly becomes overwhelming. After half an hour of searching, it's easy to close the computer and decide to try another day.

That's exactly why I do what I do. I love taking scattered pieces of information and turning them into something that finally makes sense.

Not just another family tree, but the story behind it.

Who they were.
How they lived.
The lives they built.

Because those ordinary stories matter. In fact, I think they matter far more than many people realise. Years from now, your children and grandchildren won't just want names and dates. They'll want to know who these people really were. And that's something worth preserving.

Have you ever wondered which story in your family is waiting to be uncovered?

If you've ever wondered where your family came from, now is a wonderful time to start exploring.

Whether you're interested in DNA analysis, tailored research, the Heritage Package or a complete Platinum Package experience, the goal remains the same.

To uncover the stories that matter.

To preserve them properly.

And to create something future generations will treasure.

Because no story should be left behind.

The Clue Hidden in Your DNA: Sometimes the answer isn't in the records. Sometimes it's hiding somewhere completely unexpected.

One of the biggest misconceptions about 𝐃𝐍𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 is that it's only useful for dramatic family mysteries. The truth is that DNA can help fill gaps that traditional family history research can't always answer on its own.

Perhaps you've reached a brick wall. Perhaps a family story doesn't quite make sense. Or perhaps there's simply someone you've never been able to trace.

DNA analysis works alongside genealogy research to help connect those missing pieces.

What I love most isn't the science but the stories that emerge afterwards.

Because every discovery helps turn records into real lives.

And every answer brings us a little closer to understanding where we come from.
