Hinchingbrooke Hospital is more than just a set of buildings. It sits within a network of green spaces, on walking routes, close to the country park, in the middle of where people live.

The new hospital is a chance to think about the whole site and not just the building. Paths and planting. Somewhere to sit outside. Outdoor space a patient in recovery can actually reach. A place people are glad to walk through, not only somewhere they come when they are unwell.

Every inpatient in the new Hinchingbrooke Hospital will have their own room. That is a national NHS requirement and it is decided. It cuts the spread of infection, protects privacy and dignity, and helps people rest.

As we bring forward proposals for the next chapter of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, we want to hear what makes it special now. We are collecting your stories on our website, and what you tell us will help shape the future of the hospital.

If you have visited the Hinchingbrooke site recently, you will have seen the significant progress being made on our new staff accommodation building, Willow House.
Built by Zed Pods Ltd, Willow House will provide modern, comfortable accommodation for student doctors, nurses and on-call staff. It will replace the existing staff accommodation, which is due to be demolished over the coming months to make way for the future hospital development.
Construction is progressing well, with all four levels of the first block now in place. The next phase of work includes the delivery of the second accommodation block and the refurbishment and relocation of Captain Sir Tom Moore House, currently located near the Estates and Facilities area.
The Treatment Centre Car Park (Car Park 2) will be temporarily closed on weekends throughout August:
• Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August
• Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August
Clearly signposted alternative arrangements will be in place. Patients will be directed to use the staff car park at the front of the hospital during these periods, and no parking charges will apply while the Treatment Centre Car Park is closed.
There will also be an increase in delivery vehicles accessing the site. Traffic marshals will be on hand to support safe vehicle movement, but please allow additional time when travelling to and from the hospital.
You may also notice occasional periods of increased noise during working hours and some weekend activity, helping to minimise disruption during the week.

Hinchingbrooke Hospital has cared for our communities for decades. Now the building that has served us so well is reaching the end of its life, and we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to put that right.

Some things are set by national policy. There will be a new hospital, on this site, with a single room for every inpatient, by 2032. But so much is still yours to shape: how you arrive and find your way around, how wards and single rooms should feel, how technology can support your care, and what you value about this place that we should keep.

A partnership led by North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, alongside The Strategy Unit and The New Hospital Programme, has been shortlisted for the Data-Driven Transformation Award at the HSJ Awards 2026 for its pioneering project, Transforming Hinchingbrooke with OpenPlan.

The HSJ Awards recognise outstanding contributions to healthcare across the UK and celebrate organisations and teams delivering innovation, improved outcomes and excellence for patients and communities.

The shortlisted project centres on OpenPlan, an innovative, open-source modelling tool developed by The Strategy Unit to support evidence-based healthcare infrastructure planning. The model has been used to support the redevelopment of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, which requires replacement due to the deterioration of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) panels within the existing estate.

Tomorrow is exceptionally warm and it is essential to stay safe in the sun 🌡️

High temperatures are likely to have significant impacts on the health of vulnerable people. Taking precautions can help reduce the impact of hot weather on you and others.

To stay safe in the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🏠 Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day where possible.
🧴 Wear sunscreen, a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing.
🤝 Check regularly on elderly people, young children and pets.
🏃‍♂️ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest periods.
🪭 Use fans, take cool showers or use damp cloths to help keep cool

If you are visiting our hospitals, please take extra care in the heat and bring bottled water with you. Allow plenty of time so you don’t need to rush.

If you or someone else feels unwell due to the heat, visit 111.nhs.uk if it’s not an emergency.
