⚠️ Save this post as a reminder that the main sign that your baby or child is choking rather than gagging is SILENCE.

If your child is gagging, you will usually hear them trying to clear their throat or the back of their mouth.

If your child is choking, there is a blockage in their airway, and they cannot make any noise.

Would your child or teenager know what to do and who to call in an emergency? Do you know what key information is important for your child to be able to relay to the call handler?

Mini First Aid Early Years classes are for children aged 3-6 and work with the Early Years & Key Stage 1 Curriculum. Children learn about what happens to their bodies if they are hurt and how they would be treated by a grown-up.

There are 2 classes available;

💚 In class 1 children meet Freddie who not only knows how to ring 999 but also knows his address when mummy is poorly.
💚 In class 2 children learn the importance of safe eating practice as Freddie and his friends share the importance of Sit, Chop & Chew.

Chat to your school abut first aid learning provision for your children and let them know about Mini First Aid!

For a child, spending time in hospital can be scary. Noises, medicines, machines, needles, there is a lot for your child to process and deal with.

What if there was a team of specialists on hand to support your child physically, mentally and emotionally to cope with their treatment while they are there? A team to distract your child when they need it and support your child to do normal child activities - to have fun and play!

If you are unfortunate enough to have a child who has had to spend time in hospital, you may have met a Play Therapist. These amazing teams therapeutically support children, and parents, through the toughest times in their lives.

We hope you will never have to experience your child having treatment or an extended stay in hospital but if the worst happens, knowing what a play therapist can do and when you can ask for one could make a huge difference for your family.

In episode 34 of the Family Health podcast, we chat with a mum whose two year old son has spent extended time in hospital due to a respiratory condition and to Megan, a health play specialist on the paediatric critical care unit at Leeds hospitals.

Head to Spotify, iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts and search for the Family Health Podcast or you can find a link in our profile and Stories.

💛 A Little Update from Be Bright Classes 💛
Hi everyone! We’ve been a little quiet on here recently as we’ve been taking some time to give our pre-school a little TLC and continue enhancing our provision for all of our wonderful children and families.

Yesterday, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting the Spectrum of Love Spalding group. What an amazing group! 🌈 We had such a lovely time welcoming everyone into our space, and we’re really looking forward to supporting them further in the future.

We also have LOTS of birthday parties booked over the next few months, and we just want to say a huge THANK YOU for your continued support. 🎂🎈 It really does mean so much to us.

We’ll also be running some classes on Saturdays throughout September – more details coming soon!

❤️ Can we help your group or charity?
Following yesterday’s wonderful session, we’d love to hear from any other local charities, support groups or community organisations working with children and families.
We are happy to offer our space completely FREE of charge, including a member of our staff, to local charities and groups that support children, families and our local community.
If you know of a group that could benefit, please share this post, tag them below, or ask them to get in touch with us.
📧 [email protected]
We’d love to see how we can work together to support even more local children and families. 💛

I’m creating The Parenthood Space for you…

…but also for me.

Because I am a parent too.

I need a break sometimes.
I need to connect with other parents.
I need conversations that aren’t about the mental load.
I need somewhere to be me, not just “Mum”.

Parenthood can be wonderful, but it can also be lonely, relentless and overwhelming.

The Parenthood Space is the kind of place I wish existed for every parent.

A place to pause.
A place to connect.
A place to laugh.
A place to offload.
A place to find your village.

Because parents need support too.

💜 The Parenthood Space is a free weekly group for parents at every stage of the journey.

Starting Wednesday 19th August | 5.45–7.15pm
📍 Cross Keys Skills Hub, Peterborough

Funded by CPSL Mind and supported by Cross Keys Homes.

You know you need to learn first aid for your job, but do you know which first aid course or qualification you need?

Choosing the right First Aid course for your workplace can feel confusing. Different roles, different risks, different legal requirements and trying to decode acronyms like EFAW, PFA, and FAW.

Our Quality Assurance & Compliance Manager at Mini First Aid has written a clear guide to help you make an informed decision. So if you’re a school leader, nursery manager, childminder, business owner, SIA licence holder, or responsible for health and safety in any workplace, we’ll help you understand exactly what you need.
