When was the last time you took just one hour for yourself?
Life is busy. Between work, family, responsibilities, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to put your own wellbeing at the bottom of the pile.
That’s why I invite you to join me every Monday at 8pm for an hour of online therapy and relaxation.
Think of it as a Pilates session for the mind.
This is your opportunity to step away from the noise, refocus on yourself, reconnect with your goals and values, gain clarity about where you want to go next. We’ll also spend around 30 minutes in guided relaxation, helping you release tension, quiet your mind, and restore a sense of calm.
Many people leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected to the person they truly are – the version of themselves that can sometimes get lost in the demands of everyday life.
There’s no commitment to attend every week. Simply join when you can. However, making it a regular part of your routine is a powerful way to invest in yourself and prioritise your wellbeing.
And the best part? You can take part from the comfort of your favourite chair, sofa, or bed.
If you’d like to join us, email me at the address shown and I’ll send you all the details.
You make time for so many other people and responsibilities. This week, give yourself just one hour.
You deserve it.

Just because we think it - it doesn't mean it is true.
Just because we are feeling an emotion - it is not necessarily the only valid emotional response.
Our brains follow patterns and take short cuts while trying to help us understand the world around us.
Our brains are feeding back to us "our learned behaviour". When we have capacity to rationally assess the messages our brain and body are sending us, we have potential to shift the perspective. This allows the potential for other thoughts and emotions to be considered. To perhaps respond differently, perhaps respond better.
We can learn to build new patterns and learn how to work better with our brains.
Maintaining curiosity, questioning our thoughts and emotions gives us the scope to learn and grow.

was talking with a friend who was commenting that they weren’t recovering from an injury as quickly as they had hoped/expected.
We talked around it for a bit and then I enquired about what else was currently going on in their lives. It transpired that they had many stressors; concerns about poor health issues for elderly parents, supporting children struggling to manage the demands of exams, as well as work issues.

It’s not possible to separate the body and the mind; they each impact the other. Our bodies and minds also have limited capacity to cope; we have limited energy and mental resources. Our body knows this and it will try to prioritise what needs attention and save energy in other areas to do so.

When we are under stress, our brain will respond to that stress and likely produce more cortisol. We are also likely to be near our limit of capacity to cope, so sleep is impacted. The brain will assign resources to what it regards as the most significant threat. A body with higher cortisol and reduced sleep result in an immune system that is depleted and well below its best.

Significant and prolonged periods of stress will impact our minds and our bodies. In this case the result is likely to be longer times to physically heal as our mind is consuming resources trying to protect us from all the active stressors in our lives.

These are natural, automated responses, but if we understand how our brain works and the potential impact, we can learn strategies to better support both our body and our mind, we can improve our ability to heal and thrive.

Our brain doesn't easily recognise "future benefits".
As a result we may well choose watching TV rather than going for a walk.
It's another reason why "New Year resolutions" (remember them...?) often fail.
Intellectually we know that exercise is good for us and some elements of weight lifting will help protect muscle mass as we age. But when it comes to making the effort at the end of a busy day... how often do we reach for the remote or phone instead.
Making changes requires conscious effort. A decision to change something needs focus, practice, intent. We need to build it into a routine that fits with our lifestyles and is given attention and value.
For me, exercise will rarely happen at the end of the day. If I want it to be more likely to happen, it needs scheduling early in the day. That's how I operate so I am working with my patterns.
You don't need to fight it if you build it in in a way that works, and with the intent that you want it to happen.
One small change at a time. It helps create success, builds momentum and progress.

Our body and mind sends us signals constantly.
As a result, a huge amount of our responses are automated by our brain.
Messages take five times longer to reach our intellectual brain than they do to our more automated and primitive brains. Therefore it takes time for us to make rational decisions.
If we are already anxious, under stress, tired, we are far more likely to go down the fear and greater anxiety route of our primitive fight/flight brain. It is a chain reaction and becomes a vicious circle.
Our brain is trying to protect us, but it is not the only valid response to the event in question.
We need to learn to question our brains. Our "learned behaviours", our previous patterns, are not always valid and we can rewire ourselves to respond better.
Greater resilience will give you more freedom of choice about how you view, interact and respond to your world.
If you would like to start taking steps to more resilience, just get in touch.

It is amazing to work with clients and get feedback like this.
Supporting people to move forward with their goals is incredible.
Solution focused hypnotherapy works from the premise that the client has all the tools to achieve their goals, they just need support to learn how to apply them in a manner most appropriate to the way that the brain operates.
The neuroscience is fascinating and seeing the progress that clients achieve in relatively short spaces of time is fantastic.
Learning how to work with your brain really does allow you to open up so many new possibilities.
