Little Seeds Classes

Little Seeds Classes Midwife led Antenatal Classes and Baby & Child First Aid Classes Groups of 4+ couples are held at The Mill Birth and Wellbeing Centre, Duddington.

I am an experienced midwife offering private antenatal classes that cover Oundle, Stamford, Peterborough and the surrounding villages. Each course consists of a set of 4 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm till 8.30pm, on alternate months throughout each year - January, March, May, July, September, November. Smaller groups may be held at my home in Tansor. Week 1
Welcome; what you need to know in the final weeks of your pregnancy; the different stages of labour and how to enable your body to work at its optimum; the important roles of the birth partner; the 'golden hour' after the birth of your baby

Week 2
All the options available to you to help manage the contractions - from the use of water through to epidurals, along with the possible pros and cons of each, so that you can make informed choices about your birth. Plus, a brief overview of special circumstances, such as assisted births and caesarian sections

Week 3
All you need to know about newborn feeding

Week 4
Caring for your newborn baby - as your baby adjusts to a very different world outside of the womb. This includes safe sleep, bathing your baby and understanding/responding to your baby's needs. The transition to parenthood - practical and emotional aspects to consider to promote your wellbeing

Contact with other expectant couples within your group is facilitated if your consent is given. Homemade cakes half-way through each session provides an opportunity for interaction with your group and mutual support. My heart is to reduce fear in childbirth and to provide a firm foundation as you transition to a new family. Little Seeds provides practical, simple, sound information and 'tools' to equip you for a positive, calm, well informed labour, birth and journey into parenthood. Cost for expectant lady and partner/birth companion: £220
(Payable on booking, non-refundable unless special circumstances prevail)

🌱 Two little bits of news from Little Seeds! 🌱

Firstly… I have a brand-new, updated website! 🎉

I’d love you to have a look when you have a moment. If you spot anything that needs tweaking, changing or adding, please do let me know — I have a small window of time in which I can get any final amendments made.

And secondly… I have a new idea that I’m really excited about. ❤️

Birth Stories

I’m going to create a special Birth Stories page on the Little Seeds website, where real experiences can be shared with other expectant parents.

It doesn’t matter how your baby came into the world.

Perhaps you had an unplanned or ‘emergency’ caesarean birth, a planned caesarean, a water birth, an assisted birth, a straightforward vaginal birth — or something completely different.

What would you share with another expectant parent that might help them?

It could be something you wish you had known beforehand.

Something small that made a surprisingly big difference.

Something your midwife said or did.

Something your birth partner did that helped you enormously.

Or simply something you learned from your own experience that you’d love another parent to know.

And birth partners and new daddies — I’d love to hear from you too. ❤️

What do you wish you had known?
What was the most special part of supporting your partner?
What helped her the most?
What did you find useful to do?
And what made your own experience of becoming a parent more meaningful?

My hope is to share one birth story each week on the Little Seeds website, so that real-life experiences can be shared, celebrated and perhaps help someone else feel a little more prepared, reassured or confident as they approach their own baby’s birth.

As a midwife, I truly believe that birth isn’t about how your baby emerges into the world — vaginal birth or caesarean, a short labour or a long one, epidural, gas and air or no pain relief at all.

What matters is how you felt.

How you felt at the time.

How you were supported.

And, importantly, how you feel now when you look back on your baby’s birth.

Every birth story is unique. There is no ‘right’ way to give birth and no two experiences are the same.

If you feel you have a story, experience or little piece of wisdom that might help another expectant parent, I would be so grateful if you would consider sharing it with me. 🌱

Thank you, as always, for being part of the Little Seeds family.

Sending my love and gratitude,

Alison x ❤️

🌿 Just TWO WEEKS to go! 🌿

Our September Little Seeds antenatal classes begin on Wednesday 2nd September — and there is still time (and space!) to join us. 💕

If you’re expecting a baby this autumn or winter, these informative, friendly classes are a wonderful opportunity to prepare for birth and life with your new baby, while meeting other expectant parents who are on a similar journey.

✨ Starting Wednesday 2nd September
📍 Fotheringhay Village Hall
⏰ 6:30pm–8:30pm
💷 £220 per couple for a set of four classes

🌸 Midwife-led and evidence-informed, Little Seeds provides relevant, up-to-date information and practical guidance from an experienced midwife who understands pregnancy, birth and those precious early weeks with your baby.

Over our four evenings together, we’ll explore birth - however that unfolds, practical tools for labour, pain relief options, newborn care, feeding, life beyond birth and so much more — all in a welcoming, supportive and down-to-earth environment.

And perhaps one of the loveliest parts of Little Seeds is the friendships that can grow along the way. ❤️

The photograph below is of a group of parents who came to Little Seeds last year. Their babies have just celebrated their first birthdays, and I was incredibly honoured to be invited to join them for one of their birthday celebrations this summer. 🎂🧁

It was so special to see them all together again, this time with their beautiful one-year-olds, and to see the friendships that began during those antenatal evenings continuing well beyond the birth of their babies.

There are still spaces available for our September course, so if you’re expecting a baby this autumn or winter and have been thinking about joining us, there is still time to book. 🌿

📩 Visit www.littleseedsclasses.co.uk for more information and booking.

I’d love to welcome you to Little Seeds and share this very special chapter with you. 💗

ONE WEEK TO GO!!!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN US!!!

Our next set of antenatal classes begins on Wednesday 1st July, 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the lovely Fotheringhay Village Hall (PE8 5HZ).

We have a wonderful group of expectant parents waiting to welcome first babies late summer/autumn.

As a midwife working in some of our local maternity units I want to ensure that you have relevant, up-to-date, empowering information that helps you to feel ready for all sorts of potential scenarios. It's important for antenatal classes to install calm and confidence, whilst also being realistic.

So, shared with consent, is a photo of one of our March Little Seeds expectant parents who had an induction of labour.

Why might an induction of labour be indicated? What does it involve? What things are within your control to make it as comfortable and positive as possible? Find out all these things and more at Little Seeds!

Visit: www.littleseedsclasses.co.uk for more information and to book your place.

Do you know what to do if your baby/child/grandchild chokes? Or stops breathing? How would you respond if they had an allergic reaction to a food or insect bite?

At Little Seeds Baby & Child First Aid I will ensure that you leave the class with life-saving knowledge, techniques and confidence to respond appropriately whilst you are waiting for medical help to arrive.

Recognising, and responding, to emergencies, as well as the more every day illnesses and accidents, promotes recovery and may in fact save the life of someone very precious to you.

I believe baby and child first aid is a necessity for anyone in contact with babies and children.

We have 3 places left on our next session on Wednesday 3rd May, 6:15pm - 8:45pm at the delightful Fotheringhay Village Hall. Visit www.littleseedsclasses.co.uk to book your place.

£35 per adult, £30 for Little Seeds family members.

If you are expecting a baby - what do you know about Group B Strep (GBS) in pregnancy?

As a midwife working within the hospital environment I am very aware of the impact that infections can have on newly delivered mums and newborn babies.

I am dedicated to ensuring that expectant parents receive accurate, research based, relevant information in their pregnancies that allows them to make informed choices that are right for them.

Last night we started our May set of antenatal classes. In this session we include the important things to consider during the last weeks of pregnancy. GBS is one of these.

Our next set of antenatal classes begin on Wednesday 1st July. Perfect for babies due mid-August to mid-October.

I would love the opportunity to equip and support you during this special and important time.

Please visit www.littleseedsclasses.co.uk to book your place

✨ Expecting a baby this summer? ✨

Are you due between mid-June and mid-August? Join our friendly and informative antenatal classes, starting Wednesday 6th May at 6:30pm at the lovely Fotheringhay Village Hall (PE8 5HZ).

These sessions are a great opportunity to meet other expectant parents while gaining the knowledge and confidence you need as you prepare to welcome your baby.

As an NHS midwife, I see first-hand what truly helps and hinders your experience. My focus is on helping you feel calm, informed and confident about your birth experience. It’s not about how your baby arrives—whether vaginal birth, induction, or caesarean—but how you feel about it. With around one in three births in the UK being by caesarean, we make sure to cover all possibilities openly and honestly.

And because connection matters too, we pause halfway through each class for homemade cake ☕🍰—a chance to chat, relax, or enjoy a breath of fresh air in the garden.

It’s hard to believe that we are approaching Week Four of our March set of Little Seeds Classes. This group has nine lovely couples. It is always a joy, responsibility and honour to meet, and help to support and equip, expectant parents during such a special and important time of their lives.

I have been trying out some new recipes, including some gluten free options, including brookies, blueberry crumble and salted caramel stuffed cookies. Our half-way break provides a chance to relax and chat.

The next Little Seeds course starts on Wednesday 6th May at 6:30pm at Fotheringhay Village Hall. This course is perfect for babies due mid June - mid August. Booking and more information at www.littleseedsclasses.co.uk

Our January set of 4 antenatal classes, along with this week’s baby and child first aid session, came to an end on Wednesday. We had 8 expectant couples, and it was an absolute joy to meet them and get to know them over the weeks.

They completely surprised me on our final evening with a truly beautiful bouquet of flowers and a thank-you card filled with the loveliest messages from each of them.

It’s such a privilege to share this time with parents-to-be — to support, encourage and help to prepare them as they get ready to welcome their babies. Thank you all for your warmth, kindness and trust.

Our next set of antenatal classes begins on Wednesday 4th March at 6:30pm. There are still a few places available and the course is ideal for babies due from mid-April to mid-June.
