The number of discarded drug needles being found on the city's streets decreased by more than 80 per cent over a 12 month period.

Between April and June 2026, a total of 173 needles were found across the city compared to 1,066 in the same three month period in 2025.

The 83.7 per cent decrease has been attributed to several factors including the continued use of needle bins and our ongoing work with pharmacies to hand out sharps containers.

Earlier this week we were out and about visiting some of the pharmacy teams in the area. As always, it was great to get the opportunity to meet face to face. The committee members find these visits really useful and hopefully you do to. If we didn't get to you this time and you'd like to arrange a visit, just contact Karen and she will arrange a time to pop in.

Community pharmacy is at its strongest when we come together. This June, CPE are coming to the East – Newmarket on Tuesday 9th June.

This isn't a briefing you sit through and forget. It's an open, honest conversation with the people who negotiate your funding β€” including your regional rep and our Chair Anil Sharma, the CPE executive team, committee members and Professor Dame Jenny Harries.

You'll get the unfiltered story behind the latest funding negotiations. More importantly, you'll have a direct hand in shaping what comes next through live table exercises and open Q&A.

Your voice. Your priorities. Your contract.
