🧠 What’s the “climate” like in your mind today? 🧠

We often notice the big emotional storms - the big stressful or upsetting events that can happen in our lives.

But what about the subtle shifts and changes that happen quietly in the background? The small things.

One negative thought or one unhelpful behaviour isn’t a problem – much like one plastic straw in the ocean. But with enough repetition, the effect of those small things accumulates in the environment of our brain, changing the way our brain functions.

And those small, everyday thought patterns or behaviours can gradually shape how we feel, how we cope, and how we experience life.

The good news is, if we’ve accidentally created a mental climate that isn’t serving us, we can take small steps to change it. Much like taking steps to reduce our plastic waste!

We can come up with a better strategy for thinking, feeling and acting that promotes a life and an internal environment that you want to be living in.

We are often much quicker to show kindness to others than we are to ourselves.

Even in simple things like saying thank you, and giving compliments.

When was the last time you thanked yourself or gave yourself a compliment?

Why is this important?

Research in to the neuroscience of self-compassion shows us that when we show kindness to ourselves it decreases activity in the areas of our brain that process stress and negative emotions, lowering our levels of stress, anxiety and depression.
