Your practice will undoubtedly work your core without you realising, but here are some ways to weave targeted core work into your yoga practice.

Practice as many repetitions of each exercise on both sides depending on your energy. Light drawing in of navel to spine ensuring the breath isn’t compromised.

Take it slow, move with your breath as you focus on stability.

- Tiger Stretch
- Core Planks
- Dead Bugs with Hover
- Leg Hover (lift from chest not through neck)
- Scissors
- Twist and Supported little Bridge for release

When we actually stop and think, it's an extraordinary world we find ourselves in. This constant grind of achieving and doing and really for what measure?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely understand the need to work and sustain what's necessary, but are we now not all totally conditioned to thinking if we're not doing we're not achieving?

What are we missing whilst we're constantly chasing the next fix?

I can also guarantee many of you are reading this and thinking, it's okay, I scheduled my weekly yoga class so I've checked that box.

What's your mindset when you walk into that class?

Another box ticked or an hour for yourself?

Honestly it may not be a yoga class you need. It could be a walk, an hour reading a book or an afternoon sleep. Find that time it's golden✨

"Performance from the intellect of the heart, with lightness, firmness, and at the same time softness, means it is a total stretch, total extension, and total expansion. Asana done from the brain makes one heavy; done from the heart, it makes one light."
- Iyengar

Isn't this true for most things?

Perhaps this is where we're going wrong - we think, analyse, and rationalise too much, and don't allow ourselves to feel enough.

For as long as I can remember, I've always felt things deeply: love, pain, and everything in between. It can feel exhausting, and for a long time I thought it was something I should be able to overcome.

What I have come to realise is there's a strength and beauty that comes with this: deeper connections, sharp intuition, and the ability to notice subtle shifts in energy.

When we begin to move slower and feel from within, that's where the magic lies. ✨

How many times have we responded to someone or something only to wish we could take the response back?

When life feels a little chaotic, even overwhelming, the nervous system and brain can shift into survival mode.

The amygdala reacts quickly, but the prefrontal cortex - the part linked with self-control, perspective, and decision-making - needs a moment of pause to engage.

In plain terms, the brain's alarm system has often fired before the thinking brain has fully come online.

If this resonates and you need a moment to pause, Yin yoga offers the space to observe the interplay between our physical sensations, emotions and thoughts leading to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our reactions in everyday life.

The studio is blissfully cool, and with temperatures set to rise, the perfect week for a passive Yin practice..... see you on the mat x
