❌ Self care is not all about products and pampering, that’s where a lot of people make a mistake.
Self care is a whole ecosystem that, when functioning well, helps you to maintain your wellbeing.
My self care today so far has been a mix of getting some work done, a joyful activity, connection and some rest.
I started the day with a joyful activity - baking! Starting the day this was boots my mood and gives me a dopamine boost by achieving something and it’s fun!
I’ve been procrastinating on getting my newsletter out so whilst my bake was baking I gave myself a pep talk that done is better than perfect, I set myself a time limit and got the job done (subscribe in my bio to get the next one).
Setting boundaries and being accountable is also a form of self care. Learning to overcome perfection by taking imperfect action and learning that the world doesn’t fall apart reinforces the positive habit of not stressing about the small stuff. I’ve probably made typos, it’s OK, I’m human, I can’t imagine anyone would think any less of me! Do the damn thing 😬
It’s easy to withdraw during burnout and recovery and keep things to yourself so a little bit of connection and conversation keeps me happy. I’ll also be staying off social media as much as possible.
Later I’ll be making time for some meditation and prepping a healthy and balanced dinner and popping out for an after dinner stroll.
Where you spend your time and what you spend it on, what you eat and drink and who is in your life has a huge impact on your self care. It also doesn’t have to be time consuming habits or activities. Making good decisions for yourself is also a form of self care.
What element of self care do you feel you’re lacking?
Side note, I really dislike the term ‘burnout survivor’, anyone got any better ideas?
