Who am I?

I think most people like to know who is going to be treating them.
So I thought I'd start sharing some facts about myself so you can get to know me a little and how I might view the world.

Fact #1:

I’m a lindy hopper.
I started learning swing dancing several years ago. Not that you’d always know I’ve been dancing for years!
But I love it and I’ve made wonderful friends while I learn.

My passion for dancing probably influences why I wanted to rebrand City Osteopathic to Thrive Osteopathy.

I don't want patients to just function or just get about without pain.

I want you to be able to do the things you really love. To really live.

Osteopaths are qualified, regulated health professionals.

We are regsitered with the General Osteopathic Council and are required to underatke contnued professional development (additional learning) each year.

We are trained to find what is causing your problem and have the skills to find the best combination of techniques to help you get back to feeling better.

We have the knowledge to refer you on when needed.

And one of the things I love best about being an osteopath...
We have the time to listen to you!

So we can start to understand how your physical and mental health is responding to whatever life is throwing at you and help formulate a plan that works for you to get you back to health and thriving.

🌞🌳Why do osteopaths encourage you to get outdoors? 🌳🌞

We're a holistic bunch and we know that how you feel mentally affects how you feel physically.

Movement, fresh air and the sight of natural surroundings have all been shown to help reduce stress levels.

I guess there's a reason blue and green are known for their calming qualities.

In my view, there is no better time of year to be outside taking in all of the calming elements nature has to offer us than May & June.

Combine your time outside with a walk or the time to eat lunch outside or the social contact of joining others.

It all adds to our wellbeing and helps us live fully.... and thrive!

The observant among you may have noticed the different logo on the last post.

💥City Osteopathic is currently undergoing a rebrand. 💥

I think we've all had trouble pronouncing Osteopathy or Osteopathic at times! And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with City Osteopathic Practice, I feel it's a bit of a mouthful.

I had also been building my own brand before I took over City Osteopathic and I'm always keen to add a little colour to life.

I really hope the new branding and website breathes some fresh energy into things.

More than anything, I hope it makes it clear how much I love to help you feel like the best version of yourself.

✨Thank you! ✨ Reviews are really helpful to guide prospective patients in understanding how we might be able to help them.

We mean it when we say - let us know if there is anything you are not happy with or we can do better.

And let everyone else know if we're getting it right.

We really appreciate it when you take the time to write kind things. Thank you! 🙏💫🙏

In the next weeks, I'll try and answer some of the most frequent questions we answer as osteopaths.

Often, people are worried about booking to see an osteopath before they've seen a GP

Here's why it’s not absolutely necessary to wait to see your GP before you book an osteopathy appointment.

Osteopaths undergo a minimum of 4 years training in anatomy, physiology and pathology. This is a great foundation for understanding the body and why it might not be functioning well.

We have time to listen to you and time to examine you properly.
That means we can collect information from you to work out what is going one and try and help resolve it.

We are trained to identify red flags. That means we are always on the look out for any reasons we might need to refer you to your GP, whether that's at the very fiirst appointment or further down the line.

We acknowledge the limits of our knowledge and skills and will always tell you if you need to talk to your GP.

If we can’t help you, we know who can.

I know many of you will be back in the garden this weekend as the sun is back and the plants have been growing. But get the best out of your time in the garden by following thes easy tips:

🌻Limber up🌻
Before you start kneeling for long periods of time or reaching forwards or lifting or carrying, spend 10 minutes warming your muscles and joints up.
An easy way to make sure you're ready is to do whatever you can in the way of:
A few squats
A roll down (roll forwards as if you are going to touch your toes).
Windmill arms
A side-to side neck stretch
Heel raises on a step

🌻Use props 🌻
Don' think 'I'm just going to do 10 minutes so I won't bother to get....'
Fetch the kneeling mat or the little box you sit on or knee brace.
Because you know you're going to be there for hours really!

🌻Stay hydrated🌻
Cups of tea, glasses of water, fancy sodas - it's all good as long as it's low in sugar. Make sure you keep hydrated because it will not only keep you energised for your work but also help your muscles recover more quickly.

🌻Allow for rest🌻
Take breaks! It's easy to get engrossed in the flower bed you're almost finished with or the weeds you're pulling up but once you start to feel weary, take a break.
And employ the above - stretch, make a drink or sit and admire your progress for moment.
