Millions of women in England are to be offered HPV self-testing kits as the new service rolls out from today.

The kits will be offered to those who haven’t attended cervical screening following previous invitations, providing a discreet and convenient way to test for high-risk HPV at home.

Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.

🔆Solar Eclipse Patient Safety Information 🔆

As the solar eclipse will be visible tomorrow, we thought we would share some important safety information as whilst it can be an exciting event to witness, it is important to remember that looking directly at the sun at any time, including during an eclipse, can cause serious and permanent eye damage.

🔅Stay Safe During the Eclipse

• Do not look directly at the sun without specially designed solar viewing glasses that meet the appropriate safety standards.
• Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, do not provide adequate protection.
• Do not use cameras, binoculars, telescopes, or mobile phone cameras to view the eclipse unless fitted with the correct solar filters, as these can cause severe eye injury.

🔅Signs of Eye Damage

Looking directly at the sun can damage the retina, sometimes without causing immediate pain. Symptoms may include:
• Blurred vision
• Distorted vision
• Blind spots
• Changes in colour perception

If you experience any changes to your vision following the eclipse, please seek advice from an optician or healthcare professional, such as The Royal Eye Infirmary (REI) in Plymouth who have an Urgent Care department for emergency and sight-threatening eye problems, however please be aware that it is not a walk-in service and requires you to call first.

If you have a non-emergency eye issue, you can contact your own optician or use the Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) Or visit the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at The Cumberland Centre or Derriford Hospital.

Patient Notice: Delay Processing Test Results

We would like to make patients aware of an issue currently affecting test results received from University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP).

UHP has experienced a significant technical issue when implementing a new patient record system, which has resulted in general practices receiving large numbers of duplicate test results. This has created a substantial increase in administrative and clinical workload across GP practices.

Patient safety remains our priority and we are focusing on reviewing and actioning any abnormal or urgent results as quickly as possible. However, this additional workload may lead to delays in the processing of routine test results and other non-urgent administrative tasks.

Please be reassured that:
✅ Urgent and clinically significant results will continue to be prioritised.
✅ Urgent appointments and essential patient care services will continue as normal.
✅ UHP are working on identifying a solution that minimises any further impact on practices.

We kindly ask patients not to contact the practice solely to check whether a routine test result has been received, please use the NHS App.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this issue is resolved. We will provide further updates if the situation changes.
