Puma Plymouth Ukraine Medical Aid

A week and a half ago, a truck loaded with vital humanitarian aid from the PUMA charity left Plymouth for Ukraine.

On Wednesday, it arrived safely in Uzhhorod, and now, just a week and a half later, the aid is already being delivered to frontline communities, where it is needed most.

Our heartfelt thanks to every one of you for your kindness, generosity, and continued support. Because of you, this life-saving aid is reaching those who need it most. Together, we are making a real difference. 💙💛

In times of war, life is difficult for everyone. But perhaps it is hardest for those who are growing old alone, far from their loved ones, while living under the constant threat of shelling.

In the frontline town of Mykolaivka, dozens of elderly people live in a care home that has become their only home. Most of them are no longer able to care for themselves. They need not only food, hygiene supplies, and warm clothing, but also compassion and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten.

Despite all the challenges of war, the PUMA team continues to support this care home. We deliver food, hygiene supplies, bed linen, blankets, pillows, clothing, and many other essential items to make life a little easier for its residents.

This time, your donation was perhaps the most significant they have received. Thanks to your generosity, they received a washing machine and a month’s supply of food for every resident in the home.

When you see the smiles in their eyes, you realise just how important this support is. We will continue to stand by them. We will keep supporting them and will not leave them to face these difficult times alone.

Father Dmytro, from a village in the Odesa region, can now travel much more easily to visit his parishioners, offering them support and helping those who need it most.

As many of you know, here in Uzhhorod we have Grandma Valentina—our PUMA Grandma. Recently, we also took Grandpa Volodymyr under our care. He often helps us unload humanitarian aid, keeps the warehouse tidy, and is always willing to lend a hand. Before long, he became our PUMA Grandpa.

Today, he received a food parcel, and previously he was given clothing and hygiene supplies. It is impossible to put into words the genuine joy these wonderful people feel. They find it hard to believe that someone would want to support them simply out of kindness, expecting nothing in return. They cannot quite believe that they have found true friends in a place where they never imagined they would.

In their eyes🥹, you can see hope—hope🥹, gratitude❤️, and warmth for every one of you🙏🏻.

As our dear Ali always says, “To someone, you can be their whole world.” That is exactly the case here. PUMA has become a whole world for Grandma Valentina, and now for Grandpa Volodymyr as well.

Thank you all for giving not only practical help, but also the priceless feeling that these people are not alone.

Today, Valentina and her daughter Svitlana received food packages from PUMA. These groceries will last them for several weeks, until our next visit. Their sincere smiles and tears of joy are what greet us every time we come to see them.

During our last visit to Grandma Valentina in June 2026, Ali received a very special gift from her — an antique tablecloth that had been hand-crocheted by Grandma Valentina's mother more than 100 years ago.

At first glance, it may seem like an ordinary old piece of fabric. But in reality, it has silently witnessed an entire century of history. It survived the Second World War, when Grandma Valentina and her family in the forests of Belarus. It endured the difficult post-war years and food shortages, witnessed Grandma Valentina's marriage, her move to Uzhhorod, and decades of both joy and hardship experienced by one Ukrainian family.

Today, Ali sent me a photograph that truly touched my heart. She donated this remarkable tablecloth to All Hallows Church, a beautiful historic church in the small village of Ringmore on the south coast of Devon, England.

When I started reading about the history of the church, I was amazed. Archaeological evidence shows that there was already a Christian place of worship on this site in Saxon times, before the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. The church building we see today has stood there for nearly 800 years.

And you know... in decades, or perhaps even centuries, this story will sound almost unbelievable.

A beautiful Ukrainian tablecloth, more than a century old, has found its new home in an English church that has stood for nearly eight centuries. Today it lovingly covers an ancient Bible, becoming a small but genuine part of the history of this sacred place.

Years will pass. People may no longer remember who brought this tablecloth from Ukraine, who donated it to the church, or the remarkable journey it took. But it will remain there, quietly bearing witness to the friendship between Ukraine and England, to human kindness, to faith, and to the truth that even the simplest gift can find its highest purpose.

I truly believe there could not have been a better home or a more meaningful purpose for this tablecloth.

🇺🇦🇺🇦❤️ Dear Sergi and Viktoria went grocery shopping today with some of the funds recently raised or donated. Grandma Valentyna, Grandad Vladimir and Olena’s elderly care home in frontline Mykolaivka. Viktoria and her beautiful girls are also cooking today to take home cooked food as well. ❤️❤️
Whilst food is available in Uzhhorod, money to buy it isn’t 😢. Many fall through the cracks and often go hungry 😢
In Mykolaivka food isn’t readily available, it’s often too dangerous to even go out! I’ve been there, the drone netting covering the road is only 3m away from where elderly are sleeping 😢
