Drinking alcohol in the sun can increase your risk of dehydration, which can make you really ill.

Take care. If you're drinking alcohol this weekend, try to alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. And choosing alcohol-free options is another great way to reduce your risk too.

Be aware of the direct and indirect effects of hot weather.

Increasing temperatures in excess of 25 degrees are associated with severe illness and excess heat-related deaths in venerable people.

Hot weather can directly cause:
- Dehydration
- Heat cramps
- Heat rash
- Dizziness and fainting
- Heat exhaustion
- Heart attacs
- Heatstroke
- Increased risk of lung illnesses and other diseases.

The indirect effects are:
- Increased demand on healthcare services
- Power outages affecting homes and healthcare services
- Wildfires, and by association, smoke inhalation.

Stay well in the sun and ensure you take steps to keep yourselves, and venerable people cool.

Based on our previous work with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Psychiatric Liaison team, we’re delighted to have been selected as one of the 11 Nurse-Led innovations to share their story of impact within local communities
