📞 Behind the scenes at Peverell Park Surgery & University Medical Centre

We know that getting through on the phones during peak times can sometimes take a little while, but we wanted to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our hard-working team. Our reception and admin staff are on the phones non-stop, working tirelessly to answer your calls as quickly as possible.

🩺 How our Triage System helps YOU:
Working right alongside our receptionists is our dedicated Clinical Triage Team. When you call and are asked a few questions about your symptoms, this team is actively reviewing your request. Here is why this is great for our patients:

The Right Care, Faster: It ensures you are directed to the exact right healthcare professional for your needs—whether that’s a GP, a nurse, a physiotherapist, or a clinical pharmacist.

Ease of Access: By directing patients to the right place first time, it frees up appointments and streamlines the process for everyone.

Prioritising Safety: It allows our clinical team to immediately identify and prioritise urgent medical cases, meaning safer care for our whole community.

We are all working together with one shared goal: providing you with the best possible care.

Thank you so much for your continued patience, kindness, and support when speaking with our team. We appreciate you! 💙

Patient information:
We are currently managing an issue that the system change at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP Derriford) has caused to GP systems.

The system changes has resulted in delays and duplication of some path results being sent into GP clincial systems.

Patient safety is our highest priority and as a precaution, our GP clinicians are undertaking additional checks to ensure all test results received from UHP are reviewed safely and that no important information is missed.

This additional work may mean we have to temporarily prioritise the review and management of pathology results. As a result, some routine appointments, reviews and non-urgent services may need to be postponed or rescheduled while we work through the backlog created by this issue.

There is no need to contact us unless you have an urgent health concern or have been specifically asked to do so. Your results will be processed and manged safely.

We would like to reassure our patients that this issue has originated outside of GP practices and we ask for your patience and understanding while we manage the additional workload and work through the backlog safely.

For urgent medical advice, please continue to contact your us. Outside practice opening hours, please contact NHS 111. In a medical emergency, call 999 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.

📢 Important Notice: Urgent Requests Only Today
Due to extreme levels of clinical staff sickness, we are currently only able to process urgent requests.
To ensure we can prioritise urgent patient care safely:
• Online Access: Closed for all non-urgent clinical matters for the rest of today.
You can still access medication requests and fit note requests as usual.
• Reopening: We expect online access and general lines to reopen tomorrow at 8:00 AM.
If you have an urgent medical concern today, please contact us by phone. For emergency or life-threatening situations, please call 999 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.
We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Young people urged to receive lifesaving MenB jab from 31 July

We are urging thousands of young people heading to university and further education colleges this autumn to book a potentially lifesaving free MenB vaccine when the programme begins this week.

See link in comments for more information on eligibility and to find out where to get vaccinated.

You might notice staff using devices using your care.

We use an electronic patient record called Epic to safely record information about your treatment and care.

This means:
- Your information is recorded instantly
- The right staff can access it when needed
- Care is safer and more coordinated

Our staff are using these devices for clinical work, not for personal use.

Many young people who v**e have never smoked ci******es.

Research shows that young people who v**e are more likely to go on to smoke ci******es compared to those who don’t v**e.

Hot weather advice ☀️

• Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen (and reapply every 2 hours!)
• Wear a hat and sunglasses
• Seek shade during peak UV hours (11am – 3pm)
• Stay hydrated
• Stay cool

Prolonged heat poses a particular risk to older people, young people and those with heart and lung conditions.

Look after yourself and your loved ones and check up on neighbours who may be less able to look after themselves.
