Drinking alcohol in the sun can increase your risk of dehydration, which can make you really ill.

Take care. If you're drinking alcohol this weekend, try to alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. And choosing alcohol-free options is another great way to reduce your risk too.

Be aware of the direct and indirect effects of hot weather.

Increasing temperatures in excess of 25 degrees are associated with severe illness and excess heat-related deaths in venerable people.

Hot weather can directly cause:
- Dehydration
- Heat cramps
- Heat rash
- Dizziness and fainting
- Heat exhaustion
- Heart attacs
- Heatstroke
- Increased risk of lung illnesses and other diseases.

The indirect effects are:
- Increased demand on healthcare services
- Power outages affecting homes and healthcare services
- Wildfires, and by association, smoke inhalation.

Stay well in the sun and ensure you take steps to keep yourselves, and venerable people cool.

🌡 Temperatures are forecast to be high today. If you know someone who struggles to manage the heat, check in and help them stay cool. Close curtains on windows that face the sun, open windows when its cooler outside than in (when it is safe to do so) and turn off any unnecessary electrical items. Remember it is sometimes cooler sitting in a park under a tree than it is in a home that is too hot.
