What we physically do and say signals to our brain's RAS that 'This matters.' It's us consciously choosing who we want to be, and our brain then helps us become that person.

A former psychiatric nurse shares a profound lesson on last respects. Her practice of speaking to the deceased wasn't for them, but for the living. This echoes a powerful story from the Old Testament, where Moses defended his people, not to convince God, but to convince himself. It's a reminder that many of our actions are about shaping who *we* become.

I absolutely LOVED sharing at FireStarters youth event today, talking about the power of cooperating with God’s design as well as God’s intervention, towards true freedom to live the life God calls us to live.

What a brilliant bunch of young people! So engaged, so hungry, and asking excellent questions throughout.

Such an honour to speak into their lives today.

Did you know your brain burns a lot of energy just to keep you alive? It's programmed to resist change, seeing it as a threat. This protective instinct means it prefers the familiar, even if it's not serving you well. But it adapts to subtle or incremental or environmental change, and then wants to stay that way.

I had such a great time speaking at Elim’s MiT Conference yesterday, digging deep into an often neglected reason why we don’t do the things we want to do and do the things we hate, and how to overcome that towards ongoing freedom in the life of a leader.

And it was great meeting some wonderful new people, and catching up with some familiar wonderful people, and hearing the other speakers share so well.

Thank you Stuart and team for the honour it was to share.

When you feel that urgent need do something you'd decided against, part of it is your body reacting to perceived threats based on what the brain has adapted to beleive it needs.

Parts of our brains are wired for survival, not happiness. The parts designed to keep us alive instinctively focus on threats—potential dangers, negative people—rather than pleasant experiences. This negativity bias is a survival mechanism.

I used to be the ultimate night owl, most creative and doing my best work late into the night. But I intentionally shifted my sleep schedule through small, incremental intentional steps. Now, I always wake up before my 6:20 alarm, jumping up like a total morning lark. It proves we underestimate our ability to change, especially through gradual adaptation.

When we treat tasks as balls to throw to someone else, we have to take the ball back if there's a problem - bad news. But when we treat tasks as strings, we hold one side, anchoring it without doing all the running around of all the strings, and then others are safe to achieve within that string's lengths.

Science shows addiction isn't a disease you're born with. Yet soldiers suddenly stopped hard drugs and some people consume "in moderation". How? It's about invasive vs. pervasive. On a neurological level, the brain keeps the addiction seperate and thus "contained" or "invasive" while it can distinguish it from the rest of life. When the two become indistinguishable, addiction becomes pervasive, making it incredibly hard to just stop.
