🚨 Wednesday Challenge: Wall Sit Test 🚨

It looks easy... until you try it!

Stand with your back against a wall and slide down until your hips and knees are at roughly 90°, as if you're sitting on an invisible chair.

⏱️ How long can you hold it?

This simple test challenges the endurance of your quadriceps, glutes and core—muscles that are essential for everyday life.

Why does this matter?

✅ Helps you get up from chairs more easily.
✅ Makes climbing stairs less tiring.
✅ Supports and protects your knees.
✅ Improves lower body endurance for walking, running and sport.
✅ Stronger legs are linked with better mobility and independence as we get older.

If your legs start shaking... that's completely normal! 😅

💬 Tell us your time in the comments and challenge a friend to beat it.

Need help building stronger, more resilient legs? Our physiotherapy team can help you move better, feel stronger and stay active.

"When you've tried everything, it's easy to believe that nothing will help." ❤️

Our patient came to us after a long and incredibly challenging health journey. Living with chronic pain alongside a complex medical history, she felt disheartened and didn't want to rely on increasingly strong pain medication.

After just four acupuncture sessions, she has noticed significant improvements in her pain, sleep and overall quality of life.

Every person's story is different, and we can never promise the same results for everyone. But stories like this remind us that there are often treatment options worth exploring before accepting that pain is simply something you have to live with.

Acupuncture is a safe, evidence-informed treatment that many people find helpful for managing persistent pain and improving wellbeing. It may not be right for everyone, but it's a conversation worth having.

If you're feeling stuck, frustrated, or you've been told to 'just manage' your pain, we'd love to talk through your options with you.

📞 Call us on 01209 698353 for a friendly, no-obligation chat to see whether acupuncture could be suitable for you.

Individual results vary, and treatment recommendations are always based on a thorough assessment.

Our wonderful Pat has been shortlisted for the Innovation Award at the South West Care Awards! 🎉

Many of you already know Pat as our incredible Community Physiotherapist. She has changed the lives of so many people across our community, supporting those who are frail, housebound, or living with complex conditions when hope has often felt lost.

But Pat's impact doesn't stop there.

Through years of working with vulnerable adults, she recognised a gap in the way bed-bound people receive personal care. Rather than accepting that "that's just the way it's done," she created pobroll – an innovative product designed to make bed bathing more comfortable, dignified and respectful for the person receiving care, while also making the process easier for carers and loved ones.

This has been a long journey of passion, perseverance and determination, with Pat dedicating countless hours of her own time to developing the idea and raising awareness of how it can improve care.

Pat, we are so incredibly proud of everything you've achieved and the difference you continue to make every single day. 💙

Please join us in wishing her the very best of luck for the awards ceremony on 16th October. Whatever the outcome, you'll always be a winner to us. 👏✨

We’re incredibly grateful for every single review we receive.

Every story reminds us why we do what we do — helping people understand their bodies, overcome challenges, and get back to the things they love.

This recent review is a great example of how rehabilitation isn’t just about a scan or a diagnosis. It’s about looking at the whole picture, identifying what’s contributing to symptoms, and creating a personalised plan to help you move forward.

Whether it’s returning to sport, staying active, or simply getting back to everyday life, it’s a privilege to be part of that journey.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their experience with us — your words mean so much. 💙

Behind the scenes, our team also gets treatment when we need it.

Whether it’s managing an old ni**le, keeping on top of strength and mobility, or simply making time for our own health ....we believe in the same approach we recommend to our patients.

Physiotherapy isn’t just about fixing problems when they appear… it’s about understanding your body, staying active, and investing in your health for the long term.

Because we can’t pour from an empty cup 💙

CAN YOU PASS THIS 30-SECOND FITNESS TEST?

Most people have no idea how strong their legs really are…

Try this simple physio challenge 👇

🪑 Find a standard dining chair
🙅 Cross your arms over your chest
⏱️ Set a timer for 30 seconds
⬆️ Stand up and sit down as many times as you can

How many did you get? 👇

Why are we testing this?

This isn’t just a random challenge.

The 30-second Sit-to-Stand Test is a recognised physiotherapy test used to measure lower limb strength and functional ability.

Your leg strength plays a huge role in everyday life:
✅ Getting up from a chair
✅ Climbing stairs
✅ Walking further
✅ Staying independent as we age

📊 What’s a good score?

👨 Men

60–64 years: 14–19 stands

65–69 years: 12–18 stands

70–74 years: 12–17 stands

75–79 years: 11–17 stands

80–84 years: 10–15 stands

85–89 years: 8–14 stands

👩 Women

60–64 years: 12–17 stands

65–69 years: 11–16 stands

70–74 years: 10–15 stands

75–79 years: 10–15 stands

80–84 years: 9–14 stands

85–89 years: 8–13 stands

💡 Below these numbers?

Don’t worry. This is just one test, not a diagnosis.

The good news is that strength is trainable at almost any age.

A simple starting point:
🏋️ Sit-to-stands
• 2–3 sets
• 8–12 repetitions
• 2–3 times per week

Small improvements in strength can make a big difference to confidence, mobility and independence.

👇 Tell us your age and your score!

We want to see how our community gets on 💪

If you're struggling with pain around the front of your knee when running, try increasing your cadence (steps per minute) by 5–10%.

Why? 👇

✅ Shorter strides often reduce the force through the knee.
✅ Research has shown that a modest increase in cadence can reduce loading at the patellofemoral joint.
✅ It's a simple adjustment that doesn't require new trainers or expensive equipment.

How to try it:
• Measure your normal cadence.
• Increase it by just 5–10%
• Use a metronome app or your running watch.
• Keep your pace the same initially—just take slightly quicker, shorter steps.

⚠️ This isn't a cure for every type of knee pain, and it's most relevant for some runners with patellofemoral (front of knee) pain. If your symptoms persist, it's worth having your running assessed so the underlying cause can be identified.

💬 Have you ever tried changing your cadence? Let us know in the comments.
