Walking along the beach I stopped to look closer at the seaweed. Look at all the colours and textures in this one clump !
Imagine this in a tub/bowl/bucket/tray of water - add some shells , sand and a few pebbles maybe - et voila …. Instant rock pool for you and your play partner to explore !
Use one word utterances as you do so - echoing what they may choose to touch ! Or they may choose to “look” and watch you do the exploring.
A rich tapestry of single words if that’s appropriate or as I prefer with my PMLD family - just a mix of enthusiastic utterances : “oooos” “eeeees” and “ahhhhhs” .
Of course the perfect scenario would be to literally mirror their actions and responses. It may simply be watching how their breathing changes during the activity - and matching yours with theirs.
Meet each person where they are at and don’t rush to put your own interpretations to any of it. Remember we are playing “with them” not for or “to” them.
ENJOYMENT is infectious. 🤩🤩
