Do you overthink? Try this 👇

Ask yourself: Fact or thought?

FACT: It has happened. Now you can choose how you respond or what you do next.

THOUGHT: You’re worrying about something that might happen — but it might never happen.

Pause. Question it. Fact or thought?

Pause before you respond.

This is probably one of the most useful tools I’ve learnt, and one I’ve had to practise and practise myself.

Previously, if something upset, frustrated or annoyed me, I could react from the emotion I was feeling in that moment.

And those emotional reactions didn’t always land well or get received in the way I intended.

Now I try to pause.

Even a few seconds gives me time to digest what’s happened and think about what I actually want to say.

It doesn’t mean ignoring how I feel.

I might still disagree.

I might still say no.

I might still need to tell someone they’ve upset me.

The meaning may be exactly the same — but the delivery is considered rather than emotionally let out.

And yes, occasionally I still react! It’s something we practise, not something we suddenly perfect.

It’s one of the simplest tools I use myself and share with my clients.

Pause. Think. Respond.

Are you more likely to respond… or react?

Do you arrive at Friday with no energy left for the weekend?

All week you’ve been looking forward to Friday.

You’ve thought about the things you’d like to do.

People you’d like to see.

Maybe even promised yourself you’d make the most of the weekend.

Then Friday arrives…

And you’re exhausted.

You don’t want plans.

You don’t want another thing to think about.

You just want to stop.

When we’re using so much of our mental and emotional energy simply getting through the working week, there can be very little left for the parts of life we’re actually supposed to enjoy.

And if this happens week after week, it might be worth asking:

Am I tired… or am I emotionally exhausted?

Take half an hour this weekend to switch off your phone and do something just for you.

Emotional overload doesn’t always look like overwhelm.

Sometimes you’re still working.

Still looking after everyone.

Still getting things done.

But you’re more irritable.

Small things feel harder.

You don’t have the energy for conversations.

You’re putting things off.

And the things you usually enjoy don’t feel quite the same.

Emotional overload often builds gradually, which means we don’t always recognise it while it’s happening.

We just keep adapting and carrying on.

Until eventually we find ourselves thinking…

“Why am I so emotionally exhausted?”

Recognising what’s building is often the first step towards doing something about it.

Do you feel restless?

Like you can’t quite settle?

Do little things make you jump?

Do you feel as though you’re constantly waiting for something to happen?

Sometimes feeling on edge isn’t because something is wrong right now.

It can happen when your mind and body have been under pressure for so long that they remain on high alert…

Even when there’s no immediate reason to be.

The good news is…

Your nervous system can learn to feel safe enough to slow down again.

And every time you pause…

Take a slow breath in for four…

And out for six…

You’re sending your mind and body a gentle message that this moment is safe.

“I’m fine.”

Three simple words.

Yet sometimes they mean…

“I’m struggling.”

“I’m overwhelmed.”

“I’m exhausted.”

“I don’t know how to explain how I feel.”

We don’t have to tell everyone what’s going on.

But none of us are meant to carry everything alone.

Find that one person you trust.

Because talking won’t always change the situation…

But it can help us understand it, accept it, and sometimes find a way through it.

You never know who might need to hear this today. ❤️

Do you find it hard to relax?

You finally have a quiet moment.

Yet instead of relaxing, your mind starts making a list.

Thinking about tomorrow.

Remembering what you forgot.

Planning what needs to be done next.

For many people, relaxing isn’t difficult because they don’t want to.

It’s difficult because their mind has become so used to being switched on that slowing down feels unfamiliar.

The good news is that this isn’t something you’re stuck with.

Just as your mind has learned to stay busy, it can also learn to slow down.

Sometimes the first step isn’t trying harder.

It’s giving yourself permission to pause.
