One of the BIGGEST lies OCD tells us, is that it's protecting us from danger. When in actual fact, OCD is the danger ❌

It uses lies like this to keep control over us. We believe it when it says "Just one more compulsion and everything will be Okay"- because it's just trying to protect us, right?

OCD works like a bully in your head, making you believe you need him for your own protection and to protect those you love. It also tells us that things will always be this way, but they don't have to be. It won't always be like this. You won't always feel this way, and you aren't alone 🤗🧡

“What if it isn’t ROCD?” - Would you believe me if I said even this can be the work of OCD? 🤯

It is yet another disguise ROCD wears to try and sneak in to plant yet more seeds of doubt.

The more doubt it can fill you with, the more it demands immediate answers and certainty, the more control it retains ↩

Next time it asks you “What if it isn’t ROCD?”, try and use a non-engagement response such as “Maybe, we will have to see!” 💛

It isn’t you. It’s ROCD…

If you love someone with Relationship OCD (ROCD), you may find yourself searching for answers ⤵

🔍 “Why does my partner keep asking if I love them?”
🔍 “Why do they need reassurance so often?”
🔍 “Why do they keep questioning our relationship?”
🔍 “Why do they analyse every little thing?”
🔍 “Why can’t they just trust that we’re okay?”

These questions often come from a place of love, confusion and exhaustion 😨

When ROCD is involved, the repeated questions and need for reassurance usually aren’t a reflection of your relationship or a sign that you haven’t shown enough love.

They are often part of an OCD cycle driven by fear, uncertainty and the need to feel completely certain 💭

The difficult part is that reassurance can bring relief in the moment, but it often doesn’t last. The doubt returns, and the cycle begins again 🔄

Understanding this can be a turning point for partners- it allows you to move from “Why is this happening to us?” to “How can we respond to the OCD in a way that supports recovery?” 🙌

If you love someone with ROCD, remember ⤵

💛 You are not the cause of their intrusive thoughts.
💛 You cannot reassure OCD away.
💛 Supporting your partner also means looking after yourself.

ROCD can be incredibly challenging for both people in a relationship but with understanding and the right support, change is possible.

Together yet apart was written to help partners understand ROCD and navigate this journey with compassion 📚

If you love someone with Relationship OCD, I wrote this book for you 💛

Loving someone with ROCD can be confusing, painful and exhausting at times 😰

You may find yourself trying to reassure them, answer the same questions repeatedly, or search for the “right” thing to say to take away their distress.

You’re doing it because you care, because you love them and because you want to help 💞

This book was written to help partners and loved ones understand what is really happening when OCD targets a relationship, why certain patterns develop, and how you can offer support without unintentionally feeding the OCD cycle 🔄

Inside, you’ll learn more about ⤵
📚 How ROCD works and why it creates so much uncertainty
📚 The role reassurance can play in maintaining the cycle
📚 How to respond with compassion while setting healthy boundaries
📚 How to support your partner while also protecting your own wellbeing

If you’ve ever felt helpless, overwhelmed or unsure how to navigate ROCD, this book was created with you in mind.

Things I wish more people knew about Relationship OCD… ⤵

Relationship OCD is often misunderstood 😫

Many people assume that having doubts about a relationship means something is wrong with the relationship.

ROCD is not about the presence of doubt it’s about the way OCD can make those doubts feel urgent, threatening and impossible to ignore ⏰

Here are some things I wish more people knew ⤵

💛 ROCD doesn’t mean you’re with the wrong person.
OCD often targets the things that matter most to us, and for many people, that is their relationship 🎯

💛 Intrusive thoughts are not facts.
Having a thought, image or feeling does not automatically mean it reflects your true feelings or intentions 💭

💛 Love is not a constant emotion.
Feelings naturally change and fluctuate in every relationship. ROCD can make normal emotional experiences feel like evidence that something is wrong 🔍

💛 Seeking certainty can keep you stuck.
Constantly analysing your feelings, comparing your relationship, checking for attraction or seeking reassurance may bring temporary relief, but can strengthen the OCD cycle over time 🔄

💛 Recovery is not about achieving 100% certainty.
Healthy relationships involve some level of uncertainty. Treatment focuses on learning to respond differently to intrusive thoughts and reducing the compulsions that keep OCD going 💯

You are not your thoughts. And having doubts does not mean you have to act on them.

One of the biggest misconceptions about ROCD is that recovery means reaching a point where you’re completely certain about your relationship and never experience intrusive thoughts again 💭

In reality, that’s not the goal ❎

Everyone experiences doubts from time to time. What keeps ROCD going isn’t the presence of doubt, it’s the urge to respond to it by analysing, checking, seeking reassurance or trying to find certainty 🔍

Evidence-based treatment, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), helps you learn a different way of responding. Rather than trying to get rid of every intrusive thought, the focus is on reducing compulsions and building your ability to tolerate uncertainty.

Over time, many people find that when they stop engaging with the OCD cycle, the thoughts become less distressing and less influential 🔄

Recovery doesn’t mean never having another intrusive thought.

It means reaching a point where those thoughts no longer dictate your choices, your relationships or your life.

If you’re struggling with Relationship OCD, know that effective treatment is available, and you don’t have to face it alone 💛

This is a topic that came up in my ROCD Facebook Support group recently… 💛

Social media has made it easier than ever to compare our relationships to everyone else’s 👀

Perfect date nights. Grand romantic gestures. Relationship “experts” sharing rigid rules. Endless videos telling you what a healthy relationship should look like - but one size doesn’t fit all ❎

For someone living with Relationship OCD, this content can become another source of doubt.

You may find yourself asking things like “Does this mean something is wrong with my relationship?”

It’s important to remember that social media rarely reflects the reality of long-term relationships. It offers carefully selected moments, not the full picture 📸

When you have ROCD, repeatedly consuming relationship advice, comparison content or “red flag” posts can become another way of seeking certainty or checking whether your relationship measures up. Unfortunately, this often strengthens the OCD cycle rather than resolving it.

Healthy relationships aren’t defined by constant excitement, perfection or what someone else’s relationship looks like online.

Learning to step away from the search for certainty is often an important part of recovery 🔍

Remember, your relationship doesn’t need to look like an Instagram highlight reel to be healthy, meaningful and worthwhile 💑
