Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire including St Mary's Treatment Centre, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital. Children and young people receiving care at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth will now have access to a wider range of comforting, nutritious food options thanks to a newly launched menu on the children's ward.

A launch event hosted on the Starfish Ward on Monday (24 August) saw opportunities to try the new menu, as well as activities for the children and educational stands from the dietary team.

The initiative has been supported by Sophie's Legacy, a charity established in memory of ten-year-old Sophie Fairall, who sadly passed away following a diagnosis of a rare childhood cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma.

From 10 September, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust will be moving to an online booking system for routine blood tests. You will need to book an appointment in order to have a routine blood test carried out.

The change will apply to all five sites that offer blood tests: Queen Alexandra Hospital (QA), St Mary's Hospital, Petersfield Community Hospital, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Fareham Community Hospital.

📢 Improving access to patient imaging across the South East 📢

PHU is proud to be the first Trust in the Salisbury, Isle of Wight and South Hampshire area (known as SWASH+) to go live with image sharing with UHSx - a collection of Trusts across Surrey and Sussex.

This means teams at PHU can now view imaging and reports from Surrey and Sussex hospitals, alongside images taken from the SWASH+ area, without the need to request them separately.

This seamless access helps save time, reduces duplication, and gives clinicians quicker access to important information, supporting more joined-up and efficient patient care.

A great step forward in collaboration and digital innovation across the NHS!

Was great to have both our local MPs in over the last few weeks, finding out more about some of our services! Last week Stephen Morgan MP visited our Emergency Department to learn more about our work with ambulance handovers. He also spent time with our Emergency End of Life Response Team (pictured), who work with our partners in the community and Rowans Hospice. Theyhave supported over 300 people to avoid an admission or return from hospital and die in the place of their choice.

Earlier in the month Amanda Martin MP visited our Urgent Primary and Emergency Care Centre and colleagues from the Portsmouth and South Hampshire Primary Care Alliances, to find out how the service supports people who arrive at ED with non-emergency conditions to receive care elsewhere, freeing up ED for those who need it most!

The Wessex Kidney Centre at PHU has reached an incredible milestone, now supporting over 100 patients with home haemodialysis at the same time.

For many patients, home dialysis means fewer hospital visits, more control over their treatment, and the ability to fit care around daily life.

A special celebration took place on Saturday 8 August, as Filipino nurses came together to mark an incredible 25 years of NHS service.

The celebration recognised the large group who arrived from the Philippines between March and September 2001, many of whom began their NHS careers at QA Hospital, as well as colleagues who later joined PHU from other Trusts.

Steve Thomas, Acting Chief Nursing Officer, joined colleagues to mark the milestone, while Chief Executive Penny Emerit shared a special message of congratulations and thanks.

Penny said: “It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the remarkable contribution you have made, and continue to make. You have supported patients and families through some of the most important moments of their lives, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have given to our Trust and the communities we serve.”

A huge congratulations and thank you to all our Filipino nursing colleagues for 25 years of commitment, compassion and outstanding service. 💙
