Hello! I took all of August off this year so September seems like a good time to introduce myself to new people.

I'm Elizabeth, but I will answer to ElizaBirth, especially if you are my 90 year old Gran-in-law who inspired the name. I'm a birth and postnatal doula based in Hampshire, and I specialise in infant feeding and neurodivergent support.

I'm a mum to four interesting young people aged six to sixteen, and I like to be at the seaside, so you can often find me there. If possible I will be in the sea!

Apart from the beach you can find me volunteering in my community at my local playgroup, and building the village through and and . I also facilitate training for which gives me the opportunity to share my passion for improving perinatal care for neurodivergent people.

Please do drop me a line letting me know who you are too!

Rounding out world breastfeeding week with this little video of me demonstrating the suggestion I make most often when giving breastfeeding support: slide that baby further round!

We see images of babies being bottle fed regularly, but more rarely those of babies being breastfed. We have an idea of how it looks to feed a baby based on those images, but babies feeding at the breast need to beld differently from babies being bottle fed, and a common latch problem is that the baby is being held too close to the ni**le. Moving baby into a better position can make a surprisingly big difference to the latch, and is always worth checking when troubleshooting breastfeeding problems.

If you need support getting breastfeeding off to a good start don't hesitate to get in touch.

That's it, no more in person work for the summer! I am available remotely to current and former clients, and to new clients by appointment. I'll see you for new pencils and new babies in September.

Does your breastfed baby want to feed more in this heat? Don't panic, this is normal! Your baby may choose more frequent or shorter feeds to maximise their hydration. Babies under six months don't need water, this can hurt their kidneys. To keep yourself comfortable you can drink to satisfy your thirst, and you might find a muslin between you and baby makes things a bit less sweaty.

Autonomy autonomy autonomy. Say it with me. This is YOUR birth, and YOUR care should be centred around YOU.

I'm looking at my calendar as we go in to the summer and I have space for births and postnatal care in December that I would love to fill. For me it's a magical time of year to support families. If you are expecting a baby in December or thereabouts please do get in touch and start planning your bespoke care
