Yesterday I carried out a series of physical assessments with ๐Ÿ

20 players each completed 10 tests to assess range of motion, strength, and stability. All with the aim of improving cricket performance and reducing injury risk. After each test, they were given either a โœ… or a โŒ, and then provided with exercises to help improve any areas that needed work.

These photos show a few of the tests and the reasons behind them:

1๏ธโƒฃ Stork Balance Test
This test assessed each participantโ€™s ability to maintain an upright position without swaying to the side. Balance and trunk control are crucial in cricket, as the ability to stay upright and avoid collapsing to one side is important in bowling, batting, and fielding.

2๏ธโƒฃ Hand-Behind-Back Range of Motion
This test is important because in cricket we often see mobility differences between sides due to the repetitive nature of bowling and throwing. It can highlight mobility restrictions that may reduce performance and also help screen for potential shoulder-related injuries.

3๏ธโƒฃ Lumbar Rotation
This was tested on both sides. Lumbar rotation is key for generating force and power in many cricket movements. Limited rotation can reduce performance and may cause players to compensate with other movements, potentially increasing stress on different parts of the body.

Hi, Iโ€™m Lenny, a qualified Sports Therapist currently completing my Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer qualification.

With the season fast approaching, it is important to train not just your cricket skills but your body too. Whether you are a pace bowler or a batter, cricketers can be prone to specific injuries and movement limitations that may reduce performance.

What am I offering?

๐Ÿ”น Identification of mobility restrictions and strength weaknesses

Each assessment will last around 20 minutes.

If you feel that deep ache when throwing, pressing, or reaching overhead, you might be dealing with a shoulder tendinopathy.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Sports like cricket, tennis, swimming, and weightlifting can place repetitive stress on your shoulder tendons, especially the supraspinatus, leading to irritation and pain over time. Muscle imbalances can also alter your posture, placing even more stress on the tendon and worsening symptoms.

Itโ€™s important to act quickly and identify whatโ€™s causing your pain so you can start working on improving it.
