Herts Sports & Physical Activity Partnership would like to invite you to the Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire Celebration Day taking place on Thursday 3rd September at the University of Hertfordshire and Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield (AL10 9EU). This event is free of charge to attend and includes free lunch and refreshments.

The event’s aim is to promote the importance of physical activity for living longer better, and to heighten awareness of the range of opportunities available for getting and staying active aimed at those adults aged 55+.

The event will run from 9.15am-3.30pm and you are welcome to enjoy the whole day or come and go as you please. The day will feature a number of talks, interactive workshops, marketplace and practical physical activity and sport sessions. A schedule of activities for the day will be released ahead of time, but to give you a flavour of what to expect there will be Walking Tennis, Walking Squash, Pickleball, Badminton, Indoor Climbing, Line Dancing, Ballroom & Latin Dancing, Strength & Balance, Archery, Judo for Safer Falling, Bowls and everything in between.

βœ… New Appointment System
The new online triage system is now in place to help patients access the right care more quickly and fairly. Remember:
β€’ Submit one online request per health issue.
β€’ Use the NHS App or Highview website.
β€’ For urgent same-day concerns, send your request before 10am where possible.

πŸ’¬ Early feedback has been positive, with many patients finding the new system easier to use and appreciating the end of the 8am telephone rush.

Highview Medical Centre will be closed for important staff training today - Wednesday 14th July from 1.30pm-5.30pm, the practice will reopen again at 5:30pm and will be providing services as usual from 8am the following day.

Our local healthcare provider, Herts Urgent Care, will provide assistance to any patients who have an urgent medical problem while the practice is closed. Please call 111. For common conditions, patients may contact their local community pharmacy. If you have a medical emergency whilst we are closed, please call 999. Please call back when the practice reopens for any routine enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience experienced.

❗A red heat alert is now in place from 1am on Wednesday (24 June) until 11pm on Thursday (25 June).❗

This means there is an increased risk to life across the whole population, with significant impacts on older people.

During this time, keep yourself safe by:

β˜€οΈ Keeping out of the sun where possible, especially between 11am and 3pm
πŸ‘• Wearing sunscreen*, a hat and light clothes when outside to keep cool
🍹 Keeping hydrated with water and other cold drinks, but avoiding alcohol and caffeine
πŸͺŸ Keeping windows and curtains closed during the day to keep the temperature down indoors

*Make sure you use at least factor 30 sunscreen and keep reapplying frequently.
