Songbird Hypnotherapy

Songbird Hypnotherapy 🧠Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Beat overwhelm and start living again! My name is Katie Churms. Imagine feeling confident and in control every day.

I am a fully qualified (HPD, DSFH, BA Hons), accredited and insured clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. My practice is based in Potton, Bedfordshire but I can also work with you online from anywhere in the world. I specialise in supporting people feeling anxious, overwhelmed and stressed but can support with a wide range of symptoms. I am so passionate about the solution focused approach and

have seen it change so many lives, including my own! Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines forward thinking talking psychotherapy (taking elements of SFBT, CBT and NLP) and hypnosis and is a very modern and up to date approach based on the latest neuroscience. We work on moving forward and helping you to become the best version of yourself again, without the need to dwell on the past or focus on the problem. We focus on helping you to find solutions, reduce anxiety and stress levels (all of which contribute to many other conditions), as well as changing behaviours and unhelpful thinking patterns. We also help you to understand how your brain works and why you feel and behave the way you do. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines both conscious and sub-conscious change. What difference would that make to your life? What would you be able to achieve? I work with people suffering from; anxiety, stress, overwhelm, depression, low mood, low confidence, sleep problems, chronic pain, OCD, phobias, plus many more! If you are ready to make changes and get the real you back again then please don't hesitate to get in touch to book your initial consultation and start your journey. I look forward to hearing from you.

A little view from the therapy chair 💚

This is where you get to stop for a while.

No need to have everything figured out.
No need to arrive with the “right” things to say.
And definitely no need to be good at relaxing.

We’ll talk, make sense of what your brain has been doing, notice what’s already beginning to change, look at what’s working and what’s not, set goals and then you get to lie back, get cosy under the blanket and let your brain do some of the work too.

Therapy doesn’t always have to feel heavy.

Sometimes it can simply be an hour in your week where the focus is on you, where you’re going and how you want to feel.

And if you’re not local to Potton, sessions work just as well online, your therapy chair can be your own sofa or bed đŸ›‹ïž!

I’m currently operating a waiting list for new clients but the list is open and you’re very welcome to get in touch 📧.

When did we start feeling like everything we do has to have a point?

That our hobbies need to be productive, our exercise needs to be tracked, the things we make need to be for someone, and the books we read should somehow make us better or teach us something.

Sometimes we can just do things because they’re fun. Because they make us feel good. Because we fancy it.

And yet, when we get a spare 10 minutes, so many of us automatically reach for our phones instead.

So maybe this is your reminder to think about the things you used to enjoy doing simply for the sake of doing them.

No goal. No outcome. No need to be good at it.

Enjoyment is enough of a reason 💚.

What’s something you’d love to start doing again, just because you enjoy it?

Plot twist: therapists have brains too 😂🧠

Knowing how the brain works definitely doesn’t mean I always get it right. I can overthink, rush, want everything sorted immediately and find sitting still doing absolutely nothing surprisingly challenging 🙃.

The difference is that I’m much better at noticing it now and I have the tools to pull myself back.

I think that’s an important part of therapy. The aim isn’t to become a perfectly calm, positive, regulated human who never gets stressed again.

It’s understanding yourself well enough to notice when things are going a bit wonky
and knowing what helps you get back on track 💚.

So yes, I absolutely need to practise what I preach too.

Which one are you still working on? 👀

Great article on family estrangement, which is something I see so much of in my practice and something I’ve also experienced and navigated personally 💚

Going no contact with family can bring relief, guilt and grief. Psychotherapist Debbie Keenan explores family estrangement, healthy boundaries and how therapy may help. 💭 http://ow.ly/Zezw106CRBX

We live in a world where we can get almost anything at the click of a button
so it’s no wonder we get impatient when change doesn’t happen quite as quickly. (And trust me, patience is definitely not one of my greatest strengths 😂).

But real change is often much quieter than we expect.

It’s singing in the car again without even thinking about it.
It’s sleeping a little better.
It’s handling something differently that would once have sent you spiralling.
It’s realising you haven’t worried about that thing for a few hours.
It’s bouncing back from a bad day a little more quickly.

And yes, despite what the photo might suggest, I don’t have a magic wand đŸȘ„đŸ˜‚.

Hypnotherapy can support change, but it’s those small shifts, repeated over time, that really matter.

Sometimes the biggest sign of progress is simply looking back and thinking

“Actually, I wouldn’t have dealt with that like this a few months ago.”

Don’t overlook the little wins. They’re often where the biggest changes begin💚🧠.

Therapy with me probably isn’t quite what you imagine
 👀

I’m not going to sit silently and nod for an hour. I’m not going to make you analyse every detail of your past. And I’m definitely not going to wave a magic hypnosis wand and promise to “fix” you đŸȘ„đŸ˜‚.

What I will do is listen, ask questions, explain what’s going on in your brain, challenge you when it’s helpful and work alongside you to make small, realistic changes.

There’ll be neuroscience. There’ll probably be analogies. There’ll definitely be humour.

And ultimately? I want you to reach the point where you don’t need me anymore.

Because good therapy isn’t about becoming dependent on your therapist.

It’s about becoming more confident in yourself 🧠💚.

If you’re local, I’ll be doing a FREE guided relaxation session at Party on Potton on Monday 31st August at 9:15am đŸ§˜â€â™€ïžâœš

No need to book -just turn up! Ideally bring a yoga mat and a blanket so you can get nice and comfy.

Children under 16 are very welcome as long as they’re accompanied by an adult.

Just to clarify, this isn’t a hypnotherapy session or a substitute for therapy, it’s simply a gentle guided relaxation, giving you a chance to switch off for a while and start your Bank Holiday Monday feeling calm and refreshed.

Would love to see some familiar and new faces there! 💚

We spend so much of our lives looking after everyone and everything else that choosing ourselves can start to feel like a luxury.

But happiness doesn’t always come from the big things. Sometimes it’s a walk in the woods, a coffee in peace, putting your phone down, saying no to something you don’t want to do or simply giving yourself permission to stop for five minutes💚.

Those tiny choices add up.

You don’t need to completely change your life to feel better within it. Sometimes you just need to start making a little more room for you.

So
what’s one small way you’re choosing yourself today? đŸŒżđŸ‘‡đŸ»

Well
I jumped on this trend and asked ChatGPT to describe me like it was warning someone before they met me and apparently this is what we’re dealing with 😂🙃

If you’re new here- hi, I’m Katie 👋

Clinical Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist, Supervisor, lecturer, former primary school teacher, Reformer Pilates convert and slightly obsessive dog mum.

Depending on which account you’ve found me through, you might be here because you’re thinking about therapy, you’re a fellow therapist looking for supervision, or you’ve just somehow ended up watching me talk about boundaries, overwhelm and why we all need to stop putting so much pressure on ourselves.

Either way, what you see here is pretty much what you get.

I’m professional but I’m also a human being. I don’t have everything figured out. I overthink things. I occasionally ignore my own advice. I love a good boundary and then sometimes debate whether I should make an exception to it 😂.

And whether I’m working with you as your therapist or your supervisor, that matters to me. I want people to feel comfortable, understood, challenged when they need to be and never like they have to pretend they’ve got everything together.

So, welcome 👋

Therapy, supervision, psychology, business, real life, occasional chaos and an entirely unreasonable amount of Benji content.

Apparently, consider this your official warning😂

If you grew up in the 90s/noughties and sometimes wonder
when did life get THIS overwhelming? 👋

You’re definitely my kind of person.

We grew up in a world where we weren’t contactable 24/7. We didn’t carry work, news, comparison, hundreds of people and an endless stream of information around in our pockets.

Now?

đŸ“± We’re always reachable
🧠 Our brains are constantly processing
đŸ’Œ We’re juggling careers, relationships, families and life admin
đŸ˜”â€đŸ’« We overthink EVERYTHING
⏰ And even when we stop, we feel like we should be doing something

No wonder so many of us feel overwhelmed.

I’m Katie, a Clinical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist, and I’m particularly passionate about helping overwhelmed millennials navigate modern life without feeling like their brain has 37 tabs open at once.

Expect practical psychology, neuroscience, anxiety & overwhelm support, plenty of real life and probably the occasional reference that only makes sense if you remember dial-up internet 😂.

You can’t switch the modern world off.

But you can learn to feel calmer and more in control within it.

✹ Follow Katie Churms- Clinical Hypnotherapist if that sounds like exactly what your brain needs.
