With temperatures rising we want all Wyre residents and visitors to be safe in the sun and water!
☀️ Stay safe in the heat
Avoid the sun between 11am–3pm
Use high-factor sunscreen and wear a hat
Choose light, loose clothing
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
Stick to the shade where possible
Avoid strenuous activity during peak heat
🌊 Stay safe around water
If you get into trouble in the water, remember Float to Live:
Tilt your head back, ears submerged
Relax and control your breathing
Gently move your hands and feet
Don’t worry if your legs sink—we all float differently
❗ In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard ❗
Be tide aware – the sea comes in quickly and can cut you off
Watch for sandbanks and sinking sand—spread your weight if trapped
Swim between the red and yellow flags at designated bathing beaches
Leave inflatables at home, offshore winds can sweep them out to sea
If you see someone in danger, don’t enter the water call 999 immediately.
❤️ Look after others
Never leave children or vulnerable people in cars
Check on elderly neighbours, friends, and family
Keep pets cool, they feel the heat too
