πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Discipline is celebrated in sport β€” but sometimes it hides a real health problem.

RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) happens when the body isn't getting enough fuel for everything it needs to do. It can affect anyone active, of any age, s*x, sport or body size β€” and it's a recognised health condition, not a lack of willpower. πŸ’ͺ

The tricky part? The signs often look like dedication. Pushing through tiredness, skipping rest days and "eating clean" can quietly tip into something harmful, and the person frequently doesn't realise anything is wrong. 🧠

Rest and proper fuelling aren't weaknesses β€” they're part of training. Spotting RED-S early protects both health and performance, and with the right support, full recovery is absolutely possible. πŸ’š

Did you know the colour of your food can directly influence your mental health? 🌈🧠

Polyphenols β€” the natural compounds that give plants their vibrant colours β€” are one of the most exciting areas in nutritional psychiatry right now. Research shows they reduce neuroinflammation, support your gut microbiome, and help regulate mood from the inside out.

The science is clear: it's not about eating perfectly. It's about eating diversely. Each colour on your plate feeds a different strain of beneficial gut bacteria β€” and a healthier gut means a more resilient brain.

At our clinic, we take a whole-person approach to mental health and eating disorder recovery β€” because what nourishes the body also nourishes the mind. πŸ’š

If you have ADHD and can't stop thinking about food β€” this is for you. 🧠

"Food noise" is the constant, relentless, exhausting mental chatter about food that so many people with ADHD experience every single day. And it has absolutely nothing to do with greed, appetite, or willpower.

It's dopamine.

The ADHD brain is chronically low in dopamine β€” and food, particularly rich or sugary food, provides one of the fastest dopamine hits available. The brain isn't being greedy. It's desperately seeking the stimulation it's neurologically missing.

This is also why ADHD and Binge Eating Disorder co-occur so frequently β€” and why so many people with ADHD cycle through eating disorder treatment without ever fully recovering. If the

ADHD isn't addressed, the root cause is never touched.

You are not broken. You are not weak. Your brain has just never been properly understood. πŸ’™

Most people have never heard of ghrelin. But this one hormone could be the missing piece in understanding why restriction makes depression and anxiety so much worse. 🧠

Ghrelin is known as the hunger hormone β€” but science now shows it has powerful antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects directly in the brain. When you skip meals or restrict food, you're not just running low on energy. You're cutting off one of your brain's most important natural mood regulators.

This is why so many people in the depths of an eating disorder feel emotionally numb, flat, and hopeless β€” and why recovery so often brings an emotional flood once eating becomes more regular again.

It's not weakness. It's not in your head. It's biology. πŸ’™

Here's something the wellness industry rarely tells you about carbohydrates and your mental health. 🧠

Serotonin β€” your brain's primary mood chemical β€” is made from tryptophan, an amino acid found in food. But here's the catch: tryptophan doesn't travel to the brain alone. It has to compete with five other amino acids for the same entry point at the blood-brain barrier. And it almost always loses that competition.

Unless carbohydrates are present.

When you eat carbs, your body releases insulin β€” and that insulin clears the competing amino acids out of the bloodstream and into your muscles. Tryptophan finally gets through. Serotonin gets made. Your mood is supported.

This is why severely cutting carbohydrates can cause irritability, low mood, and emotional dysregulation β€” it's not a willpower issue, it's brain chemistry. And for those in eating disorder recovery, it's one of the most important clinical reasons why carbohydrate reintroduction is central to mental health recovery, not separate from it. πŸ’™
