This message is about protecting future generations by returning to everyday basics — resourcefulness, shared meals and culture. Trends won’t do it, but consistent habits will.
If you want more clarity and calm around diabetes, you’ll feel at home inside Your Diabetes Journey.

This message is a reminder to go back to the way mum and nan cooked — simple food, basic ingredients and meals that felt safe. It’s about reconnecting with what you enjoyed as a kid, without pressure, guilt or perfection.

Day 5 — The Practical Anchor
Today’s message is about bringing food back to basics in a way families can actually live with.
Vegetables form the base because they anchor the plate. Protein adds stability — it keeps energy steady and stops the blood‑sugar rollercoaster. Carbs sit in balance, not as the main event, but as part of a simple, structured meal.

Shared meals matter just as much as the food itself.
Simple food. Real connection. A table where children learn calm, rhythm and routine.

This is the practical anchor of family eating — not complicated, not perfect, just consistent.
And consistency is what shapes long‑term health.

Day 4 — The Modern Food Reality
Today’s message is about the food environment families are living in — and why “going back to basics” isn’t nostalgia, it’s survival.
Policy tries to fix society with things like the Sugar Tax and Salt Reduction Targets. But the moment policy changes, corporate finance finds a way to turn it into profit.
Children’s treats become smaller but cost the same. Reformulated foods become “healthier” but more expensive. Takeaways rise in price because ingredients and labour costs shift.
Families end up paying more for less — and the food environment becomes even more confusing.
This is why cooking from scratch matters.
Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s the one place where families regain control.
Real food. Real portions. Real culture.
We fight back by strengthening food culture at home — where policy and profit can’t interfere.

Food is the heart of any family. It’s where children learn stability, where connection happens, and where culture is quietly passed from one generation to the next.

Cook from scratch. Balance your plate. Eat together.
Not because it’s perfect — but because it creates a home where food feels simple, safe and shared.

Family culture protects future generations.
And it starts at the table.

Day 2 of my Back to Basics series.
My mum was born in 1938, and Malta was bombed and blockaded almost immediately when the war began. Food barely reached the island, and families survived on whatever they could get.
She grew up learning how to make meals from almost nothing — not as a diet, not as restriction, but as pure resourcefulness.
That same skill helps families today when modern food feels chaotic and overwhelming.

07/09/2026

Food used to be straightforward because life was more structured and predictable. Families cooked what was available, affordable and familiar.
Today, life is faster, busier and more pressured — and food has become noisy, confusing and overloaded with choice.
This message is about helping families feel steady again by returning to simple, basic food that actually works in everyday life.

Maureen’s Mullings: Diabetes Living
Most diabetes support today is built around education — but that’s not what I do.
A small number of people have quietly shown me how much they needed something different:
o a safe place to talk without feeling judged
o a calm space to share what troubles them
o clarity that doesn’t rely on numbers, charts, or clinical language
o support that feels human, not instructional
Some were deaf (BSL & ASL).
Some were neurodivergent.
Some were dyslexic, dyscalculic, (issues with words or numbers)
Some were financially embarrassed and didn’t know how to ask for help.
Their honesty changed everything.
So, I’m shaping my work around conversation, not education — creating a person‑centred, person‑focused way for people to feel safe enough to tell the truth about their diabetes.
It’s still learning, but it’s learning through connection.
Not always face‑to‑face.
Not always live.
But always human.
And because access to “people in the know” is becoming fewer, I’m designing this work to be adaptive and multilingual, so clarity is available to anyone who needs it.
o No overwhelm.
o No jargon.
o No judgement.
Just conversation, clarity, and calm.

The gap is real — and it deserves better.
