A lovely new review this World Doula Week 🥰

23/03/2022

This is me. When I was pregnant with my youngest child in 2016. It was a challenging pregnancy. Not the physiology of it, but emotionally and psychologically I was struggling. We had lost our first daughter Rosie the year before. She died from an infection, which her premature system was not able to fight. This photo was taken at 36 weeks. Once the fear of another prem baby had subsided.
My friends and family were a great support during this time, but they were grieving too. So I was infinitely grateful for the support of my doula Hayley Rand - Doula. She was with me in my times of strength and vulnerability. She gave me moral support at appointments, so that I could challenge the default recommendations of my consultant. She held my space while I laughed and cried, depending on that day’s mood. And she gave me such a relaxing, oxytocin inducing massage that I went into labour that night 🥰
I was especially grateful for her the following morning as my husband couldn’t make it home in time for the birth 😣
Doulas help expectant parents to make informed choices, they provide reassurance in what can be a very anxious time and they share in your excitement and anticipation of your birth and your precious new babies.
Doulas make a difference in pregnancy. Even when the client is a doula themselves 😊

Today I received my 20th 5 ⭐️ review on Google. Very grateful for each and every client who has taken the time to review my services over the last few months. Only wish I hadn’t waited 6.5 years after starting my business to set up a Google Business page!

Thanks to the innovative technology of the LifeStart trolley, premature babies can now be resuscitated at the bedside while the cord, which delivers nutrients and oxygen to baby, remains intact.

Shelley Rose, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, said: “This piece of equipment will see staff working as a multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes for our babies and families."

If only there was the evidence to support some of these new guidelines 😫

The updated 2021 NICE guideline on inducing labour has just been published.

The guideline “...concerns the circumstances, methods and monitoring for inducing labour in pregnant women.” (NICE 2021).

The draft version of the guideline caused a lot of controversy when it went out for consultation.

That led to many people responding to NICE and sharing their concerns.

Thankfully, the final 2021 guidance does not include all of the changes that were proposed in the draft guideline.

However, some things are still of concern.

In my blog post on www.sarawickham.com today, I have outlined five of the key changes in the recommendations.

You can read it at https://www.sarawickham.com/research-updates/the-2021-nice-guideline-on-inducing-labour/ and there’s a link in my stories today too.

I had an amazing three days down in Brighton last week doing advanced training in pregnancy and postnatal massage. I’ve been specialising in this area for almost 6 years but there are always new techniques to learn and I can’t wait to share them with you all 🤩
