Another morning of beauty with this fabulous group of women π
Today, I shared my story of how living at an unsustainable pace led me to ask myself, "Is it me?" It was the question that changed everything.
I made the conscious decision to slow my mind through a daily meditation practice and to start saying "no" to the constant push to do more. As I slowed down internally, life around me began to feel less rushed too.
We live in a frenetic society where speed and busy-ness consume almost every moment of our day. One of the greatest lessons I've learned is that when we create space and quieten our minds, everything else seems to soften too. Time no longer feels like it's slipping away, there's more room for the things that truly matter and life simply feels better. π
"When everything around me is moving so fast, I stop and ask myself 'is it the world that's busy or is it my mind?'"
~ Haemin Sunim
Today, we intentionally dropped down a gear.
We began with a 10-minute belly-breathing meditation, inviting the breath to soften into the belly and lengthening each exhale to gently calm the nervous system.
Our asana practice flowed through a four-chapter Yang/Yin sequence, thoughtfully designed to slow our pace, steady the mind and create space for stillness.
After tea and cake, we became curious about the vagus nerve - our remarkable "wandering nerve" that connects the brain to the belly, travelling through many of our vital organs. We explored its role in regulating the nervous system and discovered ways to stimulate it. The vagus nerve is our body's natural antidote to the fight-or-flight response.
In pairs, we practised back-to-back breathing and gentle hands-on touch, experiencing the power of co-regulation, connection and feeling supported. π
We finished with Brahmari πβa beautiful practice of humming that the vagus nerve loves, alongside other vocal sounds such as buzzing, chanting, gargling, and singing - before ending with a little reflective writing.
Our next session, Self-Soothe Sunday, will be held on Sunday 20 September. It's a slightly new concept and I can't wait to share it with you. π It's available to book now:
