ADHD life!

ADHD isn’t about not being productive, it’s about when our brains work.
Daytime = noise, pressure, demands → dopamine drain.

Night time = quiet, fewer interruptions, more control → focus finally kicks in.

So if you come alive at 9pm, it’s not laziness or bad habits, it’s nervous system regulation + dopamine.

The problem isn’t you. It’s the 9–5 world!

“Everyone’s getting diagnosed with ADHD these days.”

I hear this all the time… but the reality tells a very different story.

In England, around 800,000 people have a recorded ADHD diagnosis out of a population of approximately 58 million. That’s a tiny proportion of the population.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are waiting months or years for an assessment. In some areas, ADHD services have paused new referrals or have extremely long waiting lists, leaving many people without answers or the support they desperately need.

This isn’t a trend!

It’s years of people being missed, misunderstood or misdiagnosed, and a healthcare system that is struggling to meet the demand for assessment.

Behind every statistic is someone whose relationships, education, career, finances or mental health may have been affected while they wait for the right help. 🙌🏻

The conversation shouldn’t be about whether “too many people are being diagnosed.”

It should be about why so many people are still waiting to be assessed!

Undiagnosed ADHD, for many people, it can be the root of years of anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship breakdowns, burnout, low self-esteem and feeling like they’re constantly failing, despite trying harder than everyone else.

The hardest part? Many people are still being treated for the consequences, not the cause.

Too often, people are prescribed medication for anxiety or depression, referred into mental health services, or told they’re simply stressed, without anyone asking whether ADHD could be driving those difficulties.

ADHD can coexist with other mental health conditions, but if the ADHD is missed, treatment may never fully address what’s going on.

We need greater awareness, earlier recognition, and better-informed decision making across primary care and mental health services so people have the opportunity to access the right assessment, support and treatment.

When you suddenly remember you haven’t had a drink all day, so you try to hydrate for the entire day in 30 seconds!

If you’ve got ADHD, this might feel painfully familiar. We can become so hyperfocused, distracted, or simply lose track of our body’s signals that basic things like drinking water get pushed to the bottom of the list.

ADHD and loud eating! Makes the blood boil. We can also be the loudest eaters too 😁

This is one of the biggest myths I hear, but the numbers tell a very different story.

In England, around 800,000 people have an ADHD diagnosis. Out of a population of 58 million, that’s only 1.38%.

Current estimates suggest that around 2.5 million people in England are living with ADHD, meaning approximately 1.7 million people remain undiagnosed.

Many of those people are struggling every day without understanding why things feel harder than they seem to for everyone else.

Let’s stop assuming ADHD is being overdiagnosed and start talking about the people who are still waiting years for answers!

ADHD and perimenopause can be a brutal combination!

As hormones starts to decline, dopamine is affected too. For many women with ADHD, that can mean worsening brain fog, emotional dysregulation, low mood, overwhelm, forgetfulness, poor concentration and feeling like you’ve suddenly “lost yourself.”

I’ve been using bioidentical hormone treatment through BioID Health since January last year, and for me, it’s genuinely been life-changing and has made a huge difference to my quality of life.

Every woman is different, and what works for one person won’t work for everyone, but I think more ADHD women deserve to know that hormones can have such a significant impact on our symptoms.

I’ve linked the hormone doctor at BioID Health below. If you’d like to find out more, you can use my code JS40 to receive £50 off your first prescription/treatment.

Having ADHD can be hard, but loving someone with ADHD can also feel confusing and hard when you don’t fully understand what’s going on underneath the behaviour. Forgetfulness, emotional reactions, impulsivity, shutdowns, rejection sensitivity, overwhelm, mess, time blindness, inconsistency, these things can easily be misread as laziness, selfishness, rudeness or not caring. ADHD is not a character flaw. It’s a brain difference.

I now offer 1:1 sessions for partners, parents, family members and friends of ADHDers to help you understand ADHD properly, communicate better, reduce conflict, and support your loved one in a way that actually helps.

People often think hyperactivity is just about being physically on the go, but for many adults with ADHD, it shows up in completely different ways.

For some of us, it’s the brain that never stops. For others, it’s talking… and talking… and then remembering one more thing before you’ve even finished the last thing!
