Seven days on a ship and apparently my body hadn’t quite got the message that we were back on dry land! 🚢🌊

I’ve been home for a day but was still feeling a little out of sorts — almost as though I could still feel the movement of the ship.

I’d set up these movements ready for a client session and realised that actually, they were just what I needed too.

So before my client arrived, I took a few minutes to do them myself.

I chose movements involving balance and cross-body coordination, giving my brain and body lots of information about where I was in space and working with my vestibular system — the system involved in balance, movement and our relationship with gravity.

I also incorporated some of the movements I use when working with the TLR and ATNR primitive reflexes. TLR in particular has a close relationship with the vestibular system, so after a week of constantly adjusting to the movement of a ship, it felt like a good time to give mine a little attention!

This is also a good example of why movement is such an important part of my sessions with children.

The activities I choose aren’t simply about getting children moving or “burning off energy”. They’re chosen purposefully, depending on what that child might need at that particular moment.

Sometimes we need movement to wake us up and energise us.

Sometimes we need it to help us feel more grounded, regulated and focused.

And, sometimes, the grown-ups need it too! 😂

I definitely felt better afterwards — and I think the floor has almost stopped moving 😁

What an incredibly wholesome evening and a great way to start my time off from work.

We are so fortunate to live somewhere with the most amazing sunsets. This also means we live somewhere that provided a perfect spot to watch the eclipse.

Our seafront that is usually fairly quiet in the evening was so busy, full of people enjoying time with their friends and family. We met some lovely people who also lent us their eclipse glasses - we had a genuinely lovely evening (I’ve never airdropped photos with strangers before 😂). This has definitely brought me balance after a busy time at work.

A little glimpse into one of this week’s sessions 💛

With the summer holidays in full swing, we’ve been keeping things playful while still working on some really useful skills.

This week we used movement, coordination and problem-solving activities to challenge focus, concentration and visual discrimination.

What can look like a simple game can actually ask a lot of the brain: watching, processing, planning, coordinating, remembering and adjusting when something doesn’t quite work first time.

And that’s something I really value in my sessions.

Children don’t need to sit at a table doing “focus work” to develop focus. Movement, play and carefully chosen challenges can give us lots of opportunities to practise the skills that support learning — without it feeling like more school during the summer holidays.

Fun, yes. But always with a purpose. 💛

There are so many things I love about living by the sea and being in nature.

Today, has reminded me how, in the same way as the tide comes on and clears the residue of what has been before to start afresh, each day is a new beginning, a fresh start. Time to be in the present and not hang on to what is no longer there - the past! 🙏🏻💕

✨ Sometimes our minds can feel just like a glitter jar…

Busy. Swirling. Full of thoughts and emotions that are hard to untangle.

A glitter jar is a simple but powerful tool that can help children:
💛 Recognise and talk about their feelings
💛 Understand that it’s okay to have lots of emotions at once
💛 Pause and slow down when everything feels overwhelming
💛 Practise mindfulness by watching the glitter gently settle

As the glitter settles, it creates a quiet moment to breathe, notice, and reset. It doesn’t make difficult feelings disappear, but it can help children learn that emotions change, settle, and become easier to understand with time.

In my sessions, activities like this are never “just crafts” – they’re purposeful, engaging, and designed to help children build emotional awareness, confidence, and practical tools they can use long after the session ends.

Have you ever made a glitter jar? I’d love to know how your child uses theirs. ✨
