Tilehurst Physiotherapy – Expert Rehabilitation for Fractures, Complex Injuries & Persistent Pain

A complex physical injury caused by blunt trauma, a collision or impact can happen in seconds.
Recovery takes considerably longer and is rarely straightforward.

We work with people recovering from simple and complex closed and open fractures, serious musculoskeletal injuries and collision injuries. Most people we work with have been through surgery,, some several times.

We bring four decades of expertise.

We are chosen by insurers and solicitors to lead and manage recovery and rehabilitation across the UK in cases where presentation and circumstances are not straightforward: when pain persists; trauma has affected mental health; movement remains restricted months after the accident; or strength, day-to-day function, ability to self-care and return to pre-impact work and everyday living haven't returned.

We specialise in whole-person rehabilitation and recovery, and we look deeper, beyond your original injury, to work collaboratively with you. We need to understand what’s important to you, what YOU want to achieve, your priorities, what is impeding your recovery and how we can best support you and your family .

A treatment plan may combine expert one-to-one physiotherapy, detailed comprehensive biomechanical assessment, hands-on treatment, movement retraining, targeted functional fitness and strength training, with modern pain management and psychological support, including CBT and hypnotherapy where appropriate. We can also include home needs assessment, advise on aids and adaptations for workplace and home office.

We have extensive experience and our rehabilitation programmes have high success rate with complex fractures, fragility fractures, persistent pain, complex regional pain syndrome, nerve and joint pain.

We also provide specialist tailored vocational (back-to-work) and sport-specific rehabilitation, building your rehabilitation around the physical and emotional demands of your job and sporting role.

We combine high-level knowledge, evidence based practice and understanding with decades of real-life experience supporting real people to achieve optimal recovery.

Why sign up?
You've heard about osteoporosis and want to plan for a bone-strong, healthy future.
Perhaps older relatives in your family already have bone problems.
Maybe the way you lived in the past includes risk factors which impact bone health.
You could be perimenopausal, feeling mind-body signs & signals of fluctuating hormones.
You have a medical condition which can lead to osteoporosis.
Your recent diagnosis, surgery or pharmaceutical treatment has the potential to impact bone health.
And plenty more reasons, including just being curious to live a better bone-health way.

Hands Up If You're in Pain and Struggling!

As an experienced specialist advanced practice physiotherapist, psychologist and psychotherapist, one thing I enjoy is seeing the powerful effect of a thorough, one-to-one, in-depth 90-minute holistic assessment.

A large part of my caseload is made up of individuals with chronic health conditions. Many live with chronic and persistent pain. There is a whole page on my website about the pain problems I work with:
https://jillwigmore-welsh.com/specialist-chronic-pain/

When you have chronic and persistent pain, it can impact every aspect of your life — work, family, relationships, mood, friendships, mobility and hobbies. Nothing is left untouched.

Many of my clients are strong and resilient.

But behind my clinic doors, they tell me how they really feel.

They're waking tired. They're worn down by lying awake in pain, wondering whether life will ever feel normal. Their whole body feels tight, from neck to toes. Their gut is playing up, they have brain fog, they feel tetchy and, by the middle of the week, their body and mind are drained.

The ones who book for help are giving themselves permission to hope, to stop, to review, to recover and to take positive action to support their future health and wellbeing.

Which is where my work comes in.

If you're nearly at the point of giving up, can't remember the last time you felt hopeful that something could be done to help your pain, and it's all getting too much, perhaps it's time to spend £20 and give yourself twenty minutes for a one-to-one conversation with me.

https://jillwigmore-welsh.com/?selected_service=15&latepoint=instant

A conversation about options isn't a magic cure, but it can be a valuable opportunity to reflect, discuss modern non-pharmaceutical and non-surgical pain care options, and feel more optimistic about the future.

We also provide:

Specialist massage and bodywork, EMDR, CBT, MI, Fractal Feldenkrais, Clinical Hypnotherapy and Graded Motor Imagery.

We also provide a full range of physiotherapy assessment and treatment support for bone health and neurological issues.

Appointments are available this week.

Hands Up If You're Under Pressure !

As a Physiotherapist, one thing I enjoy is noticing the powerful effect of classic, calming Swedish massage on a tense, over-pressured, dysregulated nervous system.

Many of my clients are strong and impactful, brilliant under increasing pressures. Incredibly good at keeping going at work, looking after everyone else at home, meeting deadlines, juggling multiple hats and responsibilities, and simply pushing on through.

But, behind my clinic doors, they tell me how they really feel.
They're waking tired, their shoulders feel tight, their neck is stiff, their gut is playing up, they have brain fog, their back aches and, by the middle of the week, their body feels tired and their mind is drained, as if they are just carrying more than they should.

The ones who book for help are giving themselves permission to pause, to exhale, to relax, recover and renew, and to take positive action to support their future health and wellbeing.

Which is where physiotherapy and massage comes in.

The primary focus of a Swedish massage is overall relaxation and stress reduction. It calms the nervous system through light-to-moderate, flowing, safe, even strokes that help ease physical tension and encourage the release of mood-enhancing chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine.

I'm familiar with seeing what happens when someone finally relaxes. Their breathing slows, their muscles soften, their shoulders drop, and the tension they've been carrying for days, weeks or sometimes months begins to ease.

There is a particular kind of tiredness that sleep doesn't always seem to fix, but sometimes, lying on the couch, relaxation takes over and, for a few minutes, they drift into a deep restorative sleep.

If you can't remember the last time you felt truly relaxed, and the pressure of work, life and just everything is getting too much, perhaps it's time to give yourself an hour of care and attention.
Massage isn't a magic cure, but it can be a valuable opportunity to switch off, recharge, and feel more comfortable in your own body again.

We also provide :
Specialist sports and deep tissue massage are more vigorous techniques, designed to relieve chronic muscle tension, speed up recovery after training, and prevent injuries.

And a full range of Advanced Specialist Physiotherapist assessment and treatment support for your complex MSK and neurological issues as well.

Appointments are available this week.

Most of my clients don't need another lecture about what they're doing wrong, or a long list of exercises to add to an already busy day. They need permission to stop, to be looked after, and invest time in themselves.

When life feels busy, stressful and demanding, it is easy to put your own needs and wellbeing to the bottom of the list.

Whether you are struggling with persistent aches and pains, recovering from an injury, supporting a child with a sports injury, or dealing with a partner whose latest sporting enthusiasm has left them sore and uncomfortable, physiotherapy can help.

My aim is not simply to treat a painful shoulder, sore back or sporting injury, but to help you feel more comfortable, confident and at ease in your body.
To help you recognise how pressure, stress and tension can build up physically, and how small changes can help you feel calmer, sleep better and move more freely.

At my practice we take time, you will be listened to, supported and treated as a whole person in a calm, welcoming environment.

With 38 years of experience in Reading, and expertise gained working with everyone from Olympic athletes to local families, my focus remains the same: helping people feel stronger, more comfortable and more confident in their everyday lives.

Sometimes the most important thing you can do is give yourself permission to take care of yourself.

Have a wonderful day and if you want help just call.

A 20 minute conversation is no charge.
xx J
