A positive birth is not about how baby enters the world. Studies show a positive birth is determined by a sense of safety, agency and autonomy. Were you listened to? Respected?

The birth partner skills workshop give your birth partner the skills and confidence to understand how to navigate the NHS maternity system and how to advocate effectively.

Plus they'll learn useful pain relieving techniques and biomechanic movement to support an optimal position for baby.

Coming ti the realisation that my first birth, the reason I launched Your Birth Story, was not proof of me "cracking the code to birth"

For the first 2 years of teaching Hypnobirthing, I told all my clients about kais birth. About how Hypnobirthing moved me from fearbto fearless and all the Hypnobirthing tropes youve heard before. And I really did believe them. Like really.

But now having supported 100s of women prepare for birth and providing in person doula support to over 25 women, I know without doubt that so much of my transformative was luck.

It hurt to realise this. And go estly ive now known this for at least 2 years but this is the first time ive said it out loud on here. Because it hurt. When people used to tell me I was lucky, I'd feel pi**ed off at the dismissal of MY hard work.

But of course they were partly right.

So now I hope that you experience the same luck. BUT, I prepare you for the reality of birthing within a maternity system that is understaffed, over stretched and not always able to support YOU as an individual despite midwives trying their hardest to.

Many women I work with feel they "did it wrong" the first time around. But in truth, they had as much bad luck as I had good luck.

My doula diary is now full until September 2026!!! If your babybis due september-december 2026 get in touch now for full spectrum, mindset to system support xx

Policy and guidlines can give a sense of safety and when working under immense pressure, long hours and with little support, yes it can feel confronting to have a recomendation questioned.

only by gathering information amd making informed decisions can you get woman centered care over policy and guidline driven care.

Be curious
Be collaborative

Building confidence and a vocabulary in gathering information during pregnancy xan really benefit your birth.

Even routine offers that you are totally comfortable with are a great opportunity to practise gathering information and making a decision rather than blindly trusting and saying Yes.

Because even things that feel benign like being weighed can potentially have an impact on access to water, when induction is offered and choice of place to birth. And these recommendations may change without strong evidence to support them.

By gathering information early you can protect your birth and build confidence in making informed decisions

I have a lot of issues with the advice of "just say no"

This ignores cultural norms, societal expectations amd power dynamics.

There are better questions to ask to shift the power back in your favour rather than just saying no to a recomendation or suggestion.

Make sure the birth partner ypu choose is not a people pleaser, otherwise they will have real trouble being the advocate you need in your birthing space
