💙 Today is International Neonatal Nurses Day, a chance to celebrate the incredible nurses who care for some of our smallest and most vulnerable patients.

Working in the Buscot Neonatal Unit, our neonatal nurses provide specialist care and support for babies who need extra help in their first days and weeks of life. They are there for families during some of their most challenging and emotional moments, offering expert care, reassurance and compassion every step of the way.

Thank you to all our neonatal nurses for the skill, dedication and kindness you bring to your work every day. 💙

Big hearted patients have rallied round and donated 18 new fans to make sure staff and patients on Hopkins Ward keep their cool during the current heatwave.

The Reading based Prostate Cancer Support Group raised £500 for the fans and got a very warm welcome from staff when they delivered them to the Ward today.

Former consultant anaesthetist Steve Allen, who worked at the RBH for 30 years before retiring in 2008, organised the delivery of the fans – picking them up from a shop in Walthamstow after all other retailers had sold out.

“I recently spent two months on Hopkins Ward as a patient and at times the temperatures were in the high 30s which was hard for both the staff and other patients. Even though the ward had mobile air conditioners the heat was so extreme and I mentioned it to the Prostate Cancer Group who were only too happy to help,” said Steve. He was joined by two other former RBH patients, Nigel and Alex, to hand over the fans which were immediately put to good use!
