Welcome to the new era!

What better way to start a new month (how is it June already?!) than getting back up and running after our renovation - huge thanks to the amazing Teams at TEK Contracts, RED, Hartgroves, Render Alarms and Chubb who got everything done for us.

No big project is ever smooth sailing but we are delighted to get across the line with only a few minor hiccups along the way!

Ever since I received the first design briefs, I’d thought to myself if I was a shop this is what I’d look like - we wanted to create a space that was welcoming, fun, friendly and professional and had a bit of our personalities in it.

What made it even more of a challenge was that I was keeping another secret - Tim and I were over the moon to welcome our baby girl Lucy in the middle of May after I was taken from clinic to hospital and held there towards the end of April.

Any of you who have been in to see us in the last few months probably noticed I looked a bit different! I’m delighted to say we are both doing well and Lucy (and Bertie 🐾) approves of our beautiful new practice.

Absolutely all the credit to getting the practice ready goes to the Team: Charlotte, Emily, Tim and James - you are wonderful and we couldn’t have done this without you!

Lucy and I are hopefully going to enjoy a quiet few months together before I return to clinics, safe in the knowledge that you couldn’t have anyone better to look after you than Tim - Tim is much more qualified than me (he’s shy so won’t tell you this unless you ask him how many letters he’s got after his name now!)

Thank you for the messages of encouragement and support during the work and from those who worked out the other secret ā¤ļø

And just like that the practice is empty!

So many people to thank for their hard work and help - I’ll do a post about everyone we worked with over the next few weeks.

But the biggest thanks must go to the World’s Best Team of Charlotte, Emily, Tim and James - I couldn’t be there to help you and you absolutely stepped up and just got it done šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Can’t wait to see it all on 26th May!

Proud to share this morning’s sporting achievements from the Team!

Tim has completed his third road cycling race around Loch Ness - gaining another personal best šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Sophie and Carl are well over half-way into the London Marathon and I managed to spot them on Tower Bridge!

Both wearing their Maui Jim sunglasses and Sophie wearing her new super amazing contact lenses šŸ‘€ šŸ˜Ž

Feeling so proud of you all and everyone participating - I know there’s so many personal reasons people complete challenges like this, life can be so tough and sport is such an outlet.

Keep going!

Who puts the AWESOME in ACUVUE?

That’s right it’s the world’s first daily disposable contact lens to correct your long or short sight, presbyopia (what we like to call Birthday Related vision changes šŸ˜‰ IYKYK) AND astigmatism!

For too long we’ve had to pick between correcting your long or short sight and presbyopia or long or short sight and astigmatism.

The re-usable options just didn’t cut it - taking too long to come, not always giving the best results and not always being consistent.

It was frustrating for us and for you!

Well not anymore!

Covering over 90% of prescriptions with amazing visual clarity and comfort, I’ve had the joy of fitting these lenses since early spring with amazing results.

The most exciting one recently - giving Sophie McDearmid her lenses to run the London Marathon in!

To order trials for you we need an up to date prescription and two other quick measurements then we sit back and let the magic happen šŸŖ„

EVERYONE who has been fitted here so far has experienced enhanced vision compared to their current best option which is incredible.

I’ve got very limited slots before we re-open at the end of May - so if you want to get yours, or want to book in for when we reopen - let me know by DM or leave a comment.

So I’ve been keeping a couple of MASSIVE secrets…and I can tell you what one of them is now…!

This year I’ve been working in the practice for 21 years(!) - I know, child labour comes par the course in a family business (also in denial of how old I actually am!). From Student Optometrist, to Pre-Registration, to Optometrist, to Specialist and Director and Co-Owner.

I’m very lucky that I get to work with such amazing people - my Team - but also all of you who have become so much more than my clients over the years ā¤ļø the biggest job satisfaction to me is knowing you trust us with your most precious sense - we take that so seriously and everything I do in the business is built around further delivering the goal of helping you enjoy your life with the best possible vision šŸ‘€

As part of that mission we are moving to the next Chapter of the practice with a full interior refurbishment!

Adding a new consulting room to further develop clinic services. New private eyewear styling and dispensing areas and relaunching our newest brands - Rayban Meta, Nuance Hearing specs and Tom Ford.

During the work the practice will be closed for appointments. You will be able to reach the team on the phone 01642 483611 or email [email protected]

Charlotte and Emily will assist you and will look after anything you need purchases of drops, contact lenses, solutions, repairs, making appointments for when we re-open and pass you on to Tim if you need any clinical advice. So please contact us if you need anything at all during this time.

Our last clinic day until we close for the refurbishment is **Wednesday 29th April and we will re-open on Tuesday 26th May**

We should also have another piece of exciting news by then too - but you'll have to wait until I next see you to hear about that one!

Thank you for supporting our small family business - it has been 30 years since our last refresh (I was 8/9 then!) and it has taken me a lot of time to plan and have the courage to make some big changes - I can’t wait to share this next exciting chapter with you all 🄰

Best wishes
Faye

Today’s post is a very personal post on behalf of my sister Sophie - she keeps the practice running smoothly behind the scenes and can sometimes be seen - usually mistaken for me(!) - behind the desk for holiday cover accompanied by Albus Dumblepaw 🐾

For those of you who don’t know yet - we suddenly lost our Dad at the beginning of March - many of you will have met him or spoke on the phone during COVID when he volunteered to help me with reception work so I could keep the practice open and run things on my own!

Dad instilled our never give up spirit - I’ll let Sophie continue in her own words

2 weeks tomorrow I’ll be running The London Marathon for Ehlers-Danlos Support UK šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ šŸ¦“

This training block was always going to be the hardest of my life physically with so many sacrifices and logistics, think planning 15hrs connected to a feed pump around work, travelling for cheer to Blackpool, Edinburgh and Telford, resting injuries, taping pretty much every part of my body back together and running on way below empty fumes. But combine with that what happened on 4th March, it has also been a monumental challenge mentally to just keep running. šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

It has shown me that running has the power to be so mentally healing ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹. Giving yourself that headspace to just keep going - which is exactly what I’ll be doing on the 26th. I know I’ll have a guardian angel with me the whole way (probably ahead of me, Dad was a way better runner than I’ll ever be).

To everyone who has sponsored me - Thank you so much - the support means so much to both Carl and I ā¤ļøšŸ«¶šŸ». This charity is an incredible cause and is much smaller than some of the other wonderful causes. We would love to raise as much as we can for them so they can continue their wonderful work supporting, educating and researching to improve the lives of people like me - until you’ve lived with EDS it really is impossible to understand just how hard EVERYTHING is.

15 days til I go out and hopefully show life doesn’t end at diagnosis, you just get really good at adapting and keeping moving!

If you are able to sponsor me, any amount is hugely appreciated, every little helps and it is truly a wonderful cause.
