You don't have to be struggling to need supervision 🌱

Supervision isn't only for the difficult sessions, ethical dilemmas or the times when you're wondering what on earth just happened in the therapy room!

It can also be a space to notice how much you've grown and explore where you might like to grow next!!

As therapists, we're continually developing. Our experience changes us, our clients teach us, new learning shapes our practice and sometimes we begin to notice that the way we work is evolving too.

Clinical Supervision can give you space to explore that.

To talk about an approach you're becoming interested in.
To think about your strengths.
To develop your clinical skills.
To reflect on your boundaries and ways of working.
Or simply to say: “I've noticed something changing in my practice and I'd like to understand it.”

Because being an experienced counsellor doesn't mean you've finished developing.

Turns out, we're still growing 💪

What happens when you don't feel able to tell your supervisor everything?

Perhaps you felt unsure about how you handled a session. Maybe a client triggered something personal for you, you noticed a reaction you weren't expecting, or you made a decision you're now questioning.

And sometimes there can be that little voice that says...

“What will my supervisor think of me if I tell them?”

But supervision shouldn't be about proving that you're a perfect therapist.

There isn't one.

It should be somewhere you can bring the uncertainty, mistakes, difficult feelings and uncomfortable questions as well as the things that are going well.

A good supervisory relationship can offer warmth and support, but it should also have enough safety for honest reflection and appropriate challenge.

Because often, it's the things we feel least comfortable talking about that give us the greatest opportunity to learn 🫶

Clinical supervision should be somewhere you can be honest.

Some client sessions stay with us.

You might leave wondering whether you said the right thing, notice that something has affected you more than expected, or find yourself thinking, “I need to take this to supervision.”

Supervision shouldn't feel like somewhere you have to arrive with all the answers.

For me, it's a space where we can slow things down, be curious about what's happening, reflect openly and explore your client work without fear of judgement.

It's also about you — your development, your confidence, your boundaries and sometimes simply having somewhere to put the things you've been holding for everybody else.

Because while you spend so much of your working life holding space for other people, your supervision should hold some space for you too. ❤️

Setting healthy boundaries isn't about pushing people away.

It's about protecting your time, your energy and your wellbeing.

Sometimes, saying "no" to something that leaves you feeling overwhelmed is really saying "yes" to yourself.

Healthy boundaries allow us to build relationships based on respect, honesty and balance, rather than guilt or obligation.

You don't have to explain every decision.
You don't have to please everyone.
It's okay to protect your peace 👇💛

When anxiety, stress or difficult emotions begin to take over, it can feel as though your mind is racing ahead while your body struggles to keep up.

Grounding techniques are simple exercises that help bring your attention back to the present moment.

They won't make your worries disappear, but they can help you feel calmer, more settled and better able to cope with what's happening right now.

The worksheet below shares a simple grounding exercise that you can use whenever life feels overwhelming 💛
