Faster care, fewer admissions and better experiences for patients ❤️
Our new Cardiology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit at East Surrey Hospital is already delivering positive results. In its first three weeks, almost 80 patients with cardiac-related conditions were assessed, treated and discharged within 24 hours, helping to reduce cardiology inpatient admissions by more than 25%.
The service gives patients quicker access to specialist assessment and diagnostic tests while helping more people get home on the same day.

SASH staff wellbeing day: last call for stallholders

On Tuesday 29 September, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is holding its annual Wellbeing Day at East Surrey Hospital. This event brings together local organisations and services to support the wellbeing of frontline staff. We have up to 15 stalls available to be filled at East Surrey Hospital and 4 at Crawley Hospital.

We're looking for local businesses, community partners or wellbeing providers who can provide their services or products at a generous discount to our staff. We're especially interested in pre-packaged food stalls, and relaxation or restorative products such as organic skincare or aromatherapy.

If you'd like to take part and help make it a great day for your local hospital workforce, please get in touch through [email protected] by Wednesday 2 September to express your interest and tell us a bit about what you could bring.

Please note that we’re not able to accommodate stalls selling unrelated retail products. Free parking would be provided and there is a small amount of outside space if you have a marquee set-up. The day runs from 10:30am - 4:00pm. Any other questions, please do get in touch - [email protected].

We have doubled access to hair-saving cancer treatment at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH), with hundreds more cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at East Surrey Hospital and Crawley Hospital now offered scalp cooling.

The new machines, one for each chemotherapy suite at East Surrey and Crawley Hospitals, were funded by a donation of £22,000 to SASH Charity cancer fund, given by an anonymous volunteer who had seen the difference scalp cooling can make to patients.

Find out more in the video below from Sarah Burton, Chief Nurse at SASH and Amelia Ling, Lead SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) Nurse and Matron at East Surrey Hospital.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Help shape the future of NHS mental health support!

Have you, a loved one, or someone you care for experienced stress, anxiety, low mood, sleeplessness, or another mental health, neurodevelopmental or behavioural condition?

Researchers want to understand how changes to diet could support brain health and what type of support people would find most helpful.

If you're aged 14 or over, you can make a difference by completing a 15-minute survey. As a thank you, you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher.

Find out more and complete the survey via the link below.

🌟 Celebrating future Midwife Kerry Robbins 🌟

A HUGE congratulations to Kerry Robbins, our third-year Student Midwife Representative, whose passion, leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on the student experience at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. She is the first Student Midwife to receive the Student Excellence Award!

Alongside balancing academic studies and clinical placements, Kerry has championed initiatives that bring students together, recognise excellence and help others thrive. From introducing the Student Spotlight recognition scheme and creating student bonding sessions, to sharing invaluable advice with future cohorts, Kerry has gone above and beyond to support fellow learners.

Her compassion, dedication and commitment to inclusion has earned praise from students, supervisors and families alike, truly reflecting our Trust values.

We're delighted that Kerry will be joining SASH in October as a Midwife and we can't wait to see the difference she continues to make. 💙

Today, on the first National Children’s Nurses Day, we’re recognising the extraordinary work of children’s Nurses across our organisation and the difference they make for children, young people and families every day.

Caring for children in healthcare settings takes a unique combination of clinical expertise, compassion and the ability to provide reassurance during what can often be difficult moments for patients and those closest to them.

From delivering specialist care, supporting families, advocating for young patients and helping create positive hospital experiences, children’s Nurses play an essential role in every stage of care.

Thank you to every member of our Paediatric Nursing teams for the skill, dedication and kindness you bring to your work every day.

Your impact reaches far beyond the bedside, and today is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate everything you do.
