It feels like every time you open your social media, there’s someone else flogging a new miracle cure, a new product that you simply have to be using, crikey even ten year olds with accounts where you can “get ready” with them, using all kinds of stuff… I mean, I know many adults that have shorter beauty routines than some of these children. It’s important to remember, this is all paid advertising… the people demonstrating the products are making money off you buying into it, with no recourse if something doesn’t work out for you. Our advice? Talk to a skin professional about your skin concerns. You’ll be treated as the individual you are, no false promises and no pressure. We pride ourselves on honest, truthful advice on what can (and what can’t) be achieved. We never push you into buying a million products. Just honest, dependable advice.

Sarah did a lovely set of BIAB nails for this client, who chose a gorgeous blue shade with a hint of sparkle.

What is BIAB? Short for Builder In A Bottle, it’s a nail enhancement product, designed to strengthen and protect natural nails while helping them grow. The product creates a durable layer over your natural nail. Unlike gel polish, which primarily adds colour and shine, BIAB adds structure and strength (as well as colour, if desired).

We have a range of pretty, neutral shades of BIAB which can be worn on their own for a natural look or, as with this client, a gel colour from our huge range can be added.

Lasting up to 4 weeks, an application of BIAB will help to reduce nail breakage and splitting, encouraging natural nail growth because the nail is protected. You’ll then need an infill and rebalance, or professional removal in salon.

It is important to keep in mind that while these positive effects will happen with consistent use, it’s unfortunately not a miracle fix for the nails themselves - that is to say, if you had naturally weak nails before BIAB, they will be the same naturally weak nails once the BIAB applications stop - You know and trust us for our honesty - no point promising the moon on a stick only to disappoint you later!

Skin fact or skin fiction? Let’s help to crush the myths!

Spots and pimples… to squeeze or not to squeeze?

When you squeeze a pimple, you’re applying pressure to a small inflamed pocket in the skin that’s filled with sebum, dead skin cells, bacteria, and immune cells.

Pressure doesn’t only push upward, it also pushes sideways and downward. The wall of the clogged follicle can rupture beneath the surface, spreading the infection and making matters worse:-

* Infection: Breaking the skin can introduce more bacteria and increase the chance of infection.

* More inflammation: Squeezing a spot can push its contents deeper into the skin, increasing redness, swelling, and causing slower healing.

* Scarring: Picking or squeezing increases the risk of permanent scars, especially with deeper pimples.

* Dark marks: Even if a scar doesn’t form, you may be left with lingering discoloration (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).
