Sunnyside Rural Trust🌿
At Beeshive we love nature and work hard to participate in activities to help us nurture this love. We regularly attend Sunnyside, a horticultural charity who offer training and work experience for adults with disabilities.
At Sunnyside we develop our horticulture skills as well as our social skills. We do this by working in groups to grow plants, care for animals and complete gardening DIY. Some of our favourite jobs at the trust include planting seeds, watering plants, collecting eggs and tidying the greenhouses. We also love hanging out with our friends, chilling in the cafe and eating lunch together.
When we attend activities such as Sunnyside, we have to use our Intensive Interaction techniques to ensure our time there is pleasant and rewarding. Sometimes, the prospect of doing jobs can be scary, creating a feeling of pressure and expectation. We work as a team to help reduce these anxieties, using verbal encouragement and Makaton to ensure everyone understands what is going to happen in the day.
These techniques are so integral to our team and we champion their use everywhere we go!
