"Can I just cut my hard skin off myself?"...

Is a question we get asked often, and the answer is no! 🙅‍♀️

Instead, try:
🔹 Moisturising your feet daily (avoiding between the toes)
🔹 Gently use a foot file
🔹 Wearing well-fitting footwear to help reduce pressure

In clinic, podiatrists use sterile specialist instruments that are designed to be used by trained professionals following an assessment of your feet. This is very different from using similar tools yourself at home.

👣 Looking after your feet safely today can help prevent bigger problems tomorrow!

Think you have an ingrown toenail? Avoid these common mistakes!

Please don't:
❌ Dig down the side of the nail with scissors or sharp objects.
❌ Tear or rip the nail.
❌ Ignore increasing pain, redness, swelling, or discharge.
❌ Continue wearing tight-fitting shoes if they're making symptoms worse.

Instead:
✅ Keep the area clean.
✅ Wear footwear with enough room around the toes.
✅ Seek professional advice if symptoms persist or if you notice signs of infection.

If you have diabetes, poor circulation, or reduced sensation in your feet, don't try to treat an ingrown toenail yourself - seek medical assessment promptly.

🌞 We all notice our feet getting a little sweatier during the summer, especially in warm weather or when we're on our feet more. 👣 The good news is that a few simple habits can help keep them feeling fresher!

🧦 Wear clean, moisture-wicking socks to help draw sweat away from your skin.
👟 Choose breathable footwear and allow your shoes to dry out fully before wearing them again.
🔄 If you can, alternate between pairs of shoes each day to give them time to air out.
🧼 Wash your feet daily and dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes, as moisture can encourage fungal infections.

If sweaty feet are becoming a regular problem or are leading to issues like athlete's foot, we're always happy to help 🥰

Compression socks 🧦

Compression socks aren't just for older adults! They may help support healthy blood flow and reduce leg swelling or discomfort for people who:
✔️ Stand for long periods
✔️Sit for long periods
✔️ Travel on long journeys
✔️ Have varicose veins
✔️ Experience leg swelling (oedema)
✔️ Have been advised to wear them during pregnancy

❌ They're not suitable for everyone, so if you have poor circulation or another medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before wearing them.

The right size and compression level are important for comfort and effectiveness!

Let's talk Bunions 👀

A bunion is a bony bump that develops when the bones at the base of the big toe gradually move out of alignment.

The most common causes include:
🧬 Genetics
🦶 Foot structure and shape
🦴 Certain types of arthritis

Tight or narrow shoes don't usually cause bunions, but they can make them more painful and may worsen symptoms 👠

Are your heels getting a little dry this summer? 👣☀️

With more time in sandals and open footwear, our heels can sometimes need a little extra care.

Moisturising your feet regularly helps keep the skin soft, smooth and flexible, helping to prevent dry, rough skin from becoming uncomfortable🧴

Our patients know we love this cream and highly recommend it, which we use ourselves and also sell in clinic 🙋‍♀️

Is one foot bigger than the other? 🦶🤔

The short answer: yes, it can be! ✅

Most people have one foot that is slightly longer, wider, or shaped differently. It’s completely normal - our bodies aren’t perfectly symmetrical.

When buying shoes, always fit them to your larger foot, as a shoe that feels fine on one side may feel tight on the other. A poor fit can lead to rubbing, blisters, corns or discomfort.

Your feet can change over time, so make sure your shoes feel comfortable on both feet! 👣

❓When you're away, what do you usually wear for your holiday walks? 👣

🩴Flip-flops or 👟 Trainers?

Let us know your choice in the comments! 👇

🌞 Summer tip: Flip-flops are perfect for the beach or around the pool, but if you're planning a longer walk or a day of exploring, supportive trainers are usually the better option. They'll help keep your feet more comfortable and reduce the risk of aches, blisters and strains!
