Today we are focusing on rotator cuff injury, an injury involving damage to the group of muscles and tendons that stabilise the shoulder joint, which allow for a wider range of movement and help with shoulder rotation and lifting. Rotator cuff injuries are common in athletes who perform overhead motions, as well as in individuals who experience wear and tear with age. Symptoms typically include shoulder pain, weakness and difficulty lifting the arm.

How we treat a rotator cuff injury :

Our physiotherapist will carry out a shoulder and thoracic (upper back) assessment with the necessary treatment to restore normal movement as well as the release of tight soft tissues where necessary. We will also provide education on posture, show the correct positioning of the scapula and provide relevant lifestyle advice.

Treatment for any possible trauma could include:

- Massage
- Acupuncture
- Ultrasound
- Cupping
- Taping to support weakness and correct setting of shoulder position
- Exercise rehab to strengthen shoulder and maintain good posture
