Important Notice: Delays in X-ray and Ultrasound Reporting

To our patients,

We are writing to inform you of a significant technical failure involving the Barking, Havering and Redbridge (BHR) University Hospitals NHS Trust computer systems.

Since October 2025, the Trust has experienced issues transferring imaging reports (such as X-rays and Ultrasounds) back to GP practices. This means that, in some cases, your GP may not have received the results of tests they ordered for you.

Please contact the surgery if:
- Your GP requested an X-ray or Ultrasound for you after October 2025 and you have not received your results.
- You have ongoing or worsening symptoms related to a scan you are waiting for.

Please note:
- This issue does not affect blood test results.
- This issue does not affect scans requested by hospital doctors (Consultants) during clinic appointments or A&E visits.

We have escalated this matter to NHS England as a matter of patient safety.
We sincerely apologize for the frustration and concern this may cause.

The word ‘hospice’ can sometimes feel a little daunting, and what it means is often misunderstood.

Many people think a hospice is only a place for the very last days of life. But they are so much more than that. Their main purpose is to help people live as fully as possible, for as long as possible.

What do hospices do?

- They help manage pain and other difficult symptoms.
- They offer emotional and spiritual support to both patients and their families.
- They provide care in different places, including in a person’s own home.
- They focus on quality of life, making sure a person feels comfortable and looked after with dignity.

Our local does all of this and more for our Havering community. They are a place of great comfort, care, and kindness.

When it comes to mental health, we believe doing things a bit differently makes all the difference.

That’s why we try our very best to make sure you see the same clinician for your appointments. We arrange regular follow-ups with your named clinician, so you can build a relationship together.

Why is this so important to us?

- It means you don't have to start from the beginning each time. Telling your story once is hard enough.

- It helps to build trust. This creates a safe and familiar space for the conversations that matter most.

- It helps us understand you better. Knowing you as a person, not just your symptoms, leads to better, more personal care.

It’s not just about treating an issue; it’s about looking after you. This is our commitment to your wellbeing.

If you are struggling, please know we are here to help. You can book an appointment by getting in touch with the surgery.

It’s a calm and easy way to get your winter protection in a familiar place.

📅 When: Thursday, 30th October (10am - 2pm)
📍 Where: Hope Café, Romford
✅ Needed: No booking, just walk in.

A little note about our wonderful Physician Associates (PAs) and how we are taking the very best care of you.

PAs are skilled healthcare professionals who work alongside our doctors, helping with things like talking about your health, examinations, and making plans to help you feel better. We've been very lucky to have them on our team for five years.

Recently, there has been a national conversation about the best way for PAs to work. To make sure we are always putting your safety first, we have looked very carefully at the new guidance.

Because of this, we have made some changes you may have noticed.

- You may now see a GP and a PA together at your first appointment.
- A GP will always look at your case before you are seen by a PA on your own.
- For any follow-up visits, we will ask if you are happy to see the PA again.

It is very important to us that you feel safe and looked after. We hope this explains the changes and reassures you that your care is our priority.

If you have any questions at all, please do get in touch with the surgery. We are always here to help.
