🌍✈️ Passport to Afternoon Tea Week β˜•πŸŽ¨βœ‚οΈ

Our residents have been hard at work creating their very own Passports to Afternoon Tea ready for next week's exciting adventure around the world!

The afternoon was full of laughter, creativity, and a little bit of organised chaos. There was plenty of cutting, sticking, gluing, and some very serious discussions about whose passport photo deserved a first-class upgrade! πŸ˜„

Family members joined in the fun, helping design passports and sharing lots of laughs along the way. At one point, more glue seemed to end up on fingers than on the actual passports, and a few residents discovered that glitter has a passport of its own because it managed to travel absolutely everywhere! ✨

There were giggles as residents proudly showed off their creations, compared stamps, and debated who would make the best international traveller. We even had a few budding travel agents planning routes for afternoon tea around the world, although some destinations appeared to be chosen based solely on the availability of cake! 🍰🌎

Passport to Afternoon Tea transforms a traditional afternoon tea into a cultural adventure. Participants travel from country to country, collecting stamps while exploring different foods, traditions, music, and customs from around the globe.

With passports completed and excitement building, our residents are now ready to set off on their worldwide afternoon tea journey next week. No suitcases required, just plenty of tea, treats, and a sense of adventure! β˜•β€οΈπŸŒ

πŸ–οΈβ˜€οΈ Beach Day came to The Willows! β˜€οΈπŸ–οΈ

What a fantastic afternoon we had bringing the seaside to our garden! Our residents enjoyed a refreshing glass of Pimm's, plenty of laughter, and lots of summer fun. πŸΉπŸ“πŸŠ

The cheeky seagulls (well... imaginary ones! πŸ˜„) certainly kept everyone entertained as they swooped overhead, adding to the seaside atmosphere and giving everyone a good laugh!

To make things even more exciting, there were fish swimming around in the paddling pools, and our residents had a brilliant time trying to catch them. πŸŸπŸ’¦

There was lots of laughter, friendly competition, and wonderful memories made throughout the afternoon.

A huge thank you to our amazing Wellbeing Team for creating such a joyful day and bringing the beach to The Willows. Days like these remind us that it's the smiles, laughter, and shared moments that make summer so special. πŸ’™β˜€οΈ

βœ‚οΈπŸ’ˆ Warning... There was a serious increase in handsome gentlemen at The Willows today! πŸ’ˆπŸ˜„

Today we were thrilled to welcome our brilliant new barber, Dorian, for his very first visit to The Willows Care Home.

Our gentlemen enjoyed fresh haircuts, traditional shaves, plenty of laughs, and great conversation. By the time Dorian had finished, there wasn't a hair out of placeβ€”and we're pretty sure a few mirrors were getting more attention than usual! πŸ˜„

One resident joked, "I don't need a lottery ticket now... I already look like a million pounds!" πŸ’·βœ¨

Thank you, Dorian, for helping our gentlemen feel pampered, confident, and proud. It's amazing how a haircut and a friendly chat can brighten someone's whole day.

We can't wait to welcome you back... although next time we may need sunglasses because everyone will be looking too handsome! πŸ˜ŽπŸ’™

🌟 What a Fantastic Afternoon! 🌟

A huge thank you to Martin, who once again came along to entertain our residents today, kindly sponsored by West & Coe Funeral Directors. Year after year, Martin never fails to get everyone smiling, singing, and dancing!

The lounge was filled with laughter, great music, and plenty of dancing shoes in action. Some residents even showed us moves we didn't know they had! πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

It was wonderful to see everyone joining in, singing along to their favourite songs, and enjoying such a fun-filled afternoon together.

A special thank you to West & Coe Funeral Directors for their continued generosity and support in making these memorable events possible. We truly appreciate everything you do for our residents.

🐾🏁 Ready... Set... Woof! 🏁🐾

What a tail-waggingly brilliant afternoon we had at Romford Greyhound Stadium! πŸ•πŸŽ‰

There were a few lucky winners, a few "better luck next race" moments, and one or two residents who are convinced their dog took the scenic route! πŸ˜‚ But win or lose, everyone agreed it was an absolutely fantastic day out.

Our residents enjoyed delicious snacks, refreshing drinks, lots of laughs, and wonderful company. It was so lovely to have family members join us, and even more special to see new friendships blossom throughout the afternoon. ❀️

The real winning bet wasn't on the racetrackβ€”it was seeing so many smiling faces. Every single resident told us they had a wonderful afternoon, and that's the biggest prize of all. πŸ₯°

A massive thank you to the incredible team at Romford Greyhound Stadium for making us feel so welcome every time we visit. Your kindness, warmth, and hospitality mean the world to us, and we always leave with happy memories (and a few racing tips for next time! πŸ˜‰).

Until the next race... we're off to study the form! πŸΆπŸ†

🎣🐟 Gone Fishing in the Garden! 🐟🎣

Our residents enjoyed a reely fun afternoon in the garden today playing the Fish Magnet Game! The sunshine was out, the laughter was flowing, and there were plenty of fishy antics along the way. πŸŒžπŸ˜‚

Making a special appearance was Barry the Bossy Bass 🐠, who spent the afternoon boasting that nobody could catch him. "I'm simply too fin-Telligent!" he declared. Unfortunately for Barry, our residents were expert anglers and kept reeling him in faster than he could swim away! 🀣🎣

There were smiles all around as residents competed to catch the most fish, with lots of cheering, giggling, and a few stories about the giant fish that mysteriously escaped at the last second! πŸŸπŸ’¨

The garden was filled with fun, friendly competition, and enough laughter to make the fish in the pond jealous. Everyone had a whale of a time and was completely hooked from start to finish! πŸ‹πŸ˜„

A fin-tastic afternoon outdoors, proving that sometimes the best catches aren't fishβ€”they're the wonderful memories made together. πŸ’™πŸŽ£

πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ Seaside Smiles and Rossi's Rivalries – Our Wonderful Day at Westcliff-on-Sea! β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ
Our residents enjoyed a truly fantastic day out at Westcliff-on-Sea with staff and families from The Willows Care Home, and what a day it was!
After arriving, we sensibly began with refreshments because, as everyone knows, no British seaside adventure can officially start until someone has had a cup of tea and a biscuit! β˜•πŸͺ

With everyone refreshed and ready, we set off for a stroll along the seafront. The sea breeze was blowing, the sun was shining, and there was plenty of laughter. One resident confidently informed us that they were walking so fast they would reach France before the rest of us! Another spent half the walk waving to passing dogs, claiming they were much friendlier than some people!

The fresh sea air soon worked up an appetite, so it was off to the Estuary Restaurant for lunch. Conversations flowed as quickly as the tea, and there was much discussion over whose lunch looked the best. One resident jokingly announced they were willing to swap meals with anyoneβ€”for a small fee, of course! πŸ½οΈπŸ˜‚

After lunch, we enjoyed another leisurely walk along the waterfront. It was lovely to hear comments from members of the public saying how wonderful it was to see our residents out and about, looking smart and enjoying themselves. Several people stopped to chat, and one resident happily told everyone they met that they were the "leader of the tour group"β€”a title they proudly held for the remainder of the day!
Then came what many considered the most important stop of allβ€”Rossi's Ice Cream Parlour! 🍦
Choosing an ice cream flavour became a serious operation. There were debates, negotiations, and enough careful thinking to rival a government meeting. One resident spent so long deciding that we thought Rossi's might have to open a special "Decision Making Department" just for us! Another declared that calories don't count when you're at the seaside, a statement that quickly became the official slogan of the day.

Sitting by the waterfront enjoying our ice creams, everyone relaxed, chatted, laughed, and soaked up the atmosphere. There were plenty of funny moments, including one resident trying to eat their ice cream before it melted, only to discover the ice cream was winning the race! Another was convinced the seagulls had formed an organised gang whose sole mission was to investigate our snacks. Thankfully, all snacks remained safe and secure! 🐦🍦
People continued stopping to speak with our residents, sharing smiles and kind words. It was heartwarming to see so many lovely interactions throughout the day. Our residents were fantastic ambassadors for The Willows, charming everyone they met with their humour, warmth, and wonderful personalities.

Of course, no memorable trip would be complete without photographs. There were plenty of picture opportunities, with some residents striking poses worthy of magazine covers and others insisting on "just one more photo" before we headed home. πŸ“Έβœ¨
As the day came to an end, we made our way back to the coach, tired but happy, with full stomachs, rosy cheeks, and plenty of stories to tell.
The day was filled with laughter, friendship, seaside fun, delicious food, ice cream, and countless special moments. Most importantly, it reminded us that some of life's greatest joys come from spending time together, sharing a laugh, and making wonderful memories with friends and family.

Westcliff-on-Sea, thank you for the memories. Rossi's, thank you for the ice cream. Seagulls, thank you for behaving yourselves... this time! ❀️🌊🍦😊

This afternoon, we enjoyed a lovely arts and crafts session making beautiful sunflowers with Nicola.

Everyone got creative using bright colours and different materials to design their own unique flowers. The activity encouraged creativity, conversation, and lots of smiles as residents proudly shared their finished masterpieces.

It was a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon, with the room filled with sunshine, laughter, and a wonderful sense of achievement. 🌻🎨😊

Today was truly a special day at the home.

Our wonderful singer Robert Jerome spent time bringing music directly to residents who don't usually get the opportunity to attend performances, visiting them in their rooms so nobody had to miss out. It was incredibly moving to see the smiles, sing-alongs, and heartfelt reactions that his songs inspired.

One particularly emotional moment came when he performed a song from The Phantom of the Opera. It touched so many people, including some visitors and even members of the Wellbeing Team. Thankfully, they were happy tears (although a few of us may need to start carrying tissues as standard equipment!).

Afterwards, he made his way around all the floors, stopping to sing for as many residents as possible and making everyone feel included. The celebrations continued with a special birthday song for Marion which put a huge smile on her face and made her day even more memorable.

To finish, he gathered with residents seated in the garden for one final song, creating a beautiful end to a day filled with music, laughter, memories, and a few happy tears. It was a lovely reminder that music has a way of reaching people wherever they areβ€”and occasionally making the members of the Wellbeing Team surprisingly emotional too! 🎡❀️😊

πŸ… Mini Olympics at The Willows πŸ…
Before we begin, a special mention has to go to our Home Manager, who is normally the picture of elegance and composure. However, when it came to the ball-between-the-knees race, dignity was temporarily abandoned, the heels came off, and it was game on! πŸ‘ βž‘οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ We discovered a fiercely competitive side that we're not sure we've fully recovered from yet!

Today at The Willows, staff and residents came together for a fantastic afternoon of fun, laughter, and a little bit of healthy competition during our Mini Olympics!
The games included a hilarious lime and spoon race, a blindfolded obstacle course (which tested everyone's trust and navigation skills!), jumping with a ball between your knees, and the crowd favourite – who could drink a fizzy drink the fastest! There were plenty of laughs, a few wobbles, and some surprisingly competitive participants. 🀣

The fizzy drink challenge quickly became one of the most entertaining events of the afternoon. Contestants started full of confidence, only to discover that the bubbles had other ideas! There were lots of laughs, some hilarious facial expressions, and a few competitors learning that speed and fizzy drinks don't always mix. Let's just say Olympic records may not have been broken, but burping records were definitely under threat! πŸ₯€πŸ˜‚

The action didn't stop there, as everyone put their thinking caps on for a maths quiz, proving that our residents and staff are just as sharp with numbers as they are on the sports field.
Of course, every Olympian needs a victory feast, and our amazing kitchen team delivered as always with a delicious American-style buffet featuring:
πŸ” Burgers
🌭 Hot Dogs
πŸ— Chicken Wings
πŸ§€ Mac & Cheese
πŸ₯— Coleslaw
πŸ₯€ Root Beer, Ginger Beer and Coke

A special thank you to our Willows Fun Ambassador Roger, who organised the entire afternoon, with fantastic support from the Wellbeing Team and our wonderful Kitchen Team, whose food was, as always, absolutely amazing.

Now, while everyone was a winner, we can't ignore the fact that there was one team that may have reminded everyone several times that they were the actual winners... πŸ˜‚πŸ† But the real prize was the smiles, laughter, and memories made throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who took part and made the event such a huge success. We can't wait for the next challenge... although some people may still be recovering from the fizzy drink competition and our Home Manager may still be looking for where she left her heels! πŸŽ‰πŸ€£πŸ…
